IMPHAL, May 12: Joining the world in celebration of the World Nurses Day celebration commemorating the spirit and immeasurable service rendered by Florence Nightingale, popularly known as the lady with the lamp, nurses in the state also pledge to rededicated themselves for the service of the people.
The Day was widely celebrated in the state today.
The nursing staff of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, (RIMS), Imphal observed the day at the Jubilee hall of the RIMS.
The programme was attended by Prof Dr. S. Sekharjit Singh, director, RIMS, Imphal, M. Chandramani Singh Deputy Director, RIMS Th. Chinglembi Devi nursing and Ch. Subadani Devi assistant nursing superintendent RIMS, as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
All the nursing staff of the hospital marking the day as an important part of the nursing profession took oath during the celebration and pledge to discharge their duties sincerely and with conviction.
Speaking during the celebration Prof. Dr. Sekharjit, director RIMS, stated that the basic service expected from the nurses is the `Nursing Touch`™. He said that despite a person suffering from any dreaded disease a good nursing from a nurse sometimes led the patient to live a prolonged life.
The director assured that with the Bsc nursing college of the hospital functioning fully, the ratio of nurse and patient will be brought to a par with the national norms and fulfilled the demands of man power.
He further urged the nurses not to expect rewards while discharging duties in order to concentrate and to be able to dedicate in their work. He however disclosed that in the coming year`™s gifts and presents would be distributed to the nurses as an encouragement.
He further assured that possible help would be extended to nurses in their endeavour for the welfare of the nurse`™s communities. The director also donated a sum of rupees 10,000 to the nurse`™s association of the institute.
Th. Chinglembi Devi, Nursing superintendent, expressed her joy on the recognizing of their duty by celebration of such a day. She further lauded the initiative of the Director for regularizing 208 contract nurses of the institute.
She further urged the nurses gathered during the celebration to be sincere, ethical, and careful while discharging their duties.
The Trained Nurses Association, (TNAI) Manipur also kicked off its week long celebration of Nurses Day under the banner `International Nursing Week` today at its office at Uripok Khumanthem Liekai.
The inaugural function was attended by Dr. N. Giridhari chief librarian, JNIMS, as chief guest, S. Ibemhal former principal school of GNM Lamphel as president and L. Ibohal, TNAI president as guest of honour.
During the week long celebration the TNAI will organized an annual sports meet for the nurses at Khuman Lampak expected to be participated by about 2,300 nurses of 5 government nursing institute and 18 private nursing institutes of the state.
The Day was also observed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences JNIMS and in many small nursing institute and hospitals in the state.
Paying of floral tribute to the portrait of Florence Nightingale, Lamp lighting in her remembrance, performing songs, oath taking etc marked the wide celebration.
