Subject: Invitation to participate at the media workshop on the theme NOT EVERYTHING THAT GOES BOOM IS A LANDMINE : Workshop for journalists and media professionals for investigating and reporting accurately on explosive weapons , 12 Jan 2012.
Dear Sir/Mam,
Warm greetings from Control Arms Foundation of India, New Delhi and Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network.
Hardly a day goes by without a report in the national media of a ‘landmine blast’ in Naxal areas, Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. But in 2011, for the first time, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines could not verify any new use of landmines in India. How is this possible? Learn why. International conventions now ban the use of antipersonnel mines and cluster munitions. The Geneva Conventions (Laws of War) prohibit indiscriminate use of weapons against civilian non-combatants. The Convention on Conventional Weapons prohibits the use of some types of mines, in some kinds of ways. Each has an impact on how members of the media could accurately report on explosive weapons, their impact on Indian society, and the legality of their use.
On 12 Jan 2012 Control Arms Foundation of India is organising media workshop on the theme NOT EVERYTHING THAT GOES BOOM IS A LANDMINE : Workshop for journalists and media professionals for investigating and reporting accurately on explosive weapons at Press Club of India, 12pm- 2.30pm, 12 Jan 2012.

Arora , Director of Disaster Management and Health Consultant and Ms. Binalakshmi Nepram, Founder of Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network and Secretary General of Control Arms Foundation of India.
