The North East Cultural Centre in Delhi was set up to promote dissemination of the rich cultural heritage of the North Eastern Region to the people of National Capital Region. a group of youth from North Eastern States met the Prime Minister on 10 Dec, 2009 which was facilitated by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) was set up in May 1979. CCRT functions as an autonomous organization under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India. CCRT’s main thrust is to make students aware of the importance of culture in all development programmes by conducting a variety of training programmes for in-services teachers, teacher educators, educational administrators and students throughout the country.
The objective for setting up Centre for North Eastern Culture (CNEC) under the aegis of CCRT are:
(i) Facilitating the expansion of awareness about the rich and diverse cultural heritage and tradition as well as modern expression of creativity of the North Eastern States.
(ii) Provide a platform for youth from the North Eastern States and other States of India to interact and share creative ideas and other cultural forms.
(iii) Provide content relating to dissemination of the culture of the North Eastern States for training of teachers in CCRT.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 2nd December 2011 between Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), New Delhi and North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong for setting up of Centre of North Eastern Culture in the Campus of CCRT Headquarter in Sector-7, Dwarka, New Delhi.
As per the MOU, CCRT has provided space and other infrastructural support for the Centre in its premises at Dwarka, New Delhi. The Centre will work under the overall of management and control of the Director General, CCRT. While, NEC shall furnish the space provided by CCRT as a onetime non-recurring expenditure and shall also bear the recurring expenditure of the Centre. NEC will also pay remuneration of a Consultant and a General Duty executive.
