CHURACHANDPUR, January 22: In an election-related violence, a woman identified as Goungaihching, 43, wife of Khuptinlian of Gouchinkhup Veng, New Lamka was reportedly beaten black and blue at about 6.30 pm yesterday by a supporter of the Congress (I) candidate of Churachandpur assembly constituency.

The victim, a daily wage earner, has reportedly been supporting the Trinamool Congress candidate of the same constituency.

The Congress (I) supporter identified as Zenchingthang Tonsing physically assaulted her complaining that she was not supporting the party’s candidate, said eye witnesses.

According to them, he hit her with the wooden arm of a bench on the left side of her face after which she temporarily lost sight of her left eye. She was rushed to the district hospital for administration of first aid.

Much to the relief of near and dear ones her conditions have improved and she have been discharged from the hospital.
