IMPHAL, Feb 29: A one day workshop on ‘energy conservation and its efficient use’ for school teachers was held today at the conference hall of Directorate of Education (S) in Lamphelpat. The training was part of a nationwide project called ‘Building Energy Awareness on Conservation’ (BEACON) conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in partnership with the Union Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) at the national level and with the Directorate of Education (S) in the state.
In his address to the participants of the workshop, Director of Education (S), W Rajen Singh stressed for the need of all human beings to live in harmony with its environment. He urged the teachers to take forward the message of energy conservation to their students.
Jt Director (Planning), Education (S), Th Iboyaima Singh stated in a lighter vein, “We have saved a lot of energy in Manipur with only a few hours of electricity being received by consumers.” He also lamented that implementation of ICT programs in schools have found wanting due to lack of regular supply of electricity. However, he also emphasized on the importance of conserving energy.
The workshop was attended by 45 teachers from Thoubal, Imphal East and West districts. The workshop aimed to provide the tools and techniques that the teachers may require while sensitizing students towards conserving energy.
The workshop will also be followed up with another session in July to further the cause of energy conservation.
