IMPHAL, March 5:Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur forwards an appeal to the next government which will be formed within March 15 that the elected should give emphasis on self reliance of the state by developing its natural resources.
N Rajendro, convenor of ICHAM speaking to reporters in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today stated that since a decade back ,the general perception by those in the government viewed that the state cannot sustain itself economically without help from other states.
He stated that natural resources including bamboo products, medicinal plants etc. The public should be aided to exploit the abundant natural resources in the state to bring a green revolution and to be self reliant.
Stating that tourism should be propagated to gain income sources from other countries, he stated that road connectivity should be developed and the MSRTC service needs to be revived to ensure better economic relations with neighboring states. “ICHAM feels that railway lines should be developed inter district wise. Lines if laid for Tamenglong to Ukhrul, Churachandpur to Senapati can help local business vendors in getting better markets and earn more profits.”, He further voiced the need to develop the education sector in the interior areas and deputation of security personnel in strategic areas for better state administration and that cabinet meetings should be held in the nine districts in a specific timeframe to assess the ground realities.
