IMPHAL, Mar 5: Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen, VSM, GOC 57 Mtn Div inaugurated today a cabin at Katon Khullen Primary & Junior High School that will house the computer classes for the school. It was constructed under Military Civic Action program of the Red Shield Division at a cost of Rs 3,00,000 which was executed by the villagers.
He also gave away certificates to several youths from around Leimakhong area that had completed a three months computer training course. The training was a part of the ongoing MCA project which began in Aug 2011, giving opportunities to 4 batches of youths to undertake basic computer training at IIIT, Imphal.
Maj Gen Poonnen also distributed 1690 books for classes one to five to children who came from poor backgrounds. In his speech, he expressed his hope that the insurgency in the state will end one day to usher in development.
Interestingly, the school had only two computers of the total five that was allocated to the school. On being asked if the computers were part of the MCA project, Maj Gen Poonnen replied in the negative and stated that the computers and power required to run them were the responsibility of the government.
On the recent ban imposed by the Maoist Communist Party on all MCA projects, he said “It is not the voice of the people and the people are wiser”.
