Imphal. May 8 NNN: Manipur police seized a huge amount of banned drugs from Imphal airport on Tuesday which is revealed through preliminary investigation to have been sent from New Delhi.
A total of 21 cartoons, each cartoon containing 7000 strips each of 10 tablets, of “Acti Feel” which is reported to be a banned drug were recovered by Imphal West district police today from Tulihal airport, Imphal, said K. Jayanta Singh, IPS, superintendent of police (SP), Imphal West district.No one was seen accompanying the goods, said the police.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the consignments originates from New Delhi, but to whom the goods to be delivered is under investigation, said the police officer.
Separate cases have been registered at Imphal city police station and Singjamei police station for further investigation, said the police source.
In another case, the police busted a racket indulging in preparation/issuing of fake certificates, such as, motor vehicle license, smart card, registration book of vehicle, driving license, domicile/permanent residence certificate, etc. from a computer shop located in Paona bazaar, Imphal and recovered large number of fake certificates/cards, seals, one computer desk top, one printer, etc. The computer shop is said to be run by one Sorokhaibam Chaoba, who is reported to be absconding till now.
In another case, two cadres of Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK)(Pro), an outlawed organization operating in Manipur, were arrested while they were intimidating a shop owner at Thangal Bazar, Imphal to extort money and recovered 2 mobile handsets which were used for intimidating the shop owner, said police source.
The two arrested cadres are identified as Sapam Dinachandra Singh @ Main (24) s/o S. Kunjo Singh of Okram Chuthek, Imphal East district and Okram Sarojkumar Singh (22) s/o O. Biren Singh of Okram Chuthek, Imphal East district.
One Tata truck (No. AS18C/1117) which was hijacked after killing the owner at Silchar, Assam was also recovered on May 6 from Langthabal area, added the police source.
Police also recovered 2 live Chinese grenades from near the gate of Family Welfare office, B.T. Road, Imphal which are believed to be used by underground elements for extortion campaign, stated the SP, Imphal West district police department.
