Imphal, June 11 : The much awaited ‘Summer Rhythms of the North East’ was conducted at the Thomas Ground at Kangpokpi on 10 June 2012. The gala event was witnessed by a crowd of about ten thousand as they swayed to the vibrant rhythms. The event was organised by the Youth Initiative Foundation based at Senapati supported actively by the Red Shield Division.
The event started with a bang, with the high-adrenalin Matrix Dance setting the mood for the evening. The hills of Kangpokpi rocked to the tunes of Naga Idol 2012 and Uttam, the accomplished singer from Manipur. A variety of cultural programmes highlighted the varied rich values and traditions of the North-Eastern people.
The Main Event, the eagerly awaited Summer Queen 2012 Pageant kicked off with the Introduction Round. The crowd was introduced to a bevy of charming ladies from all over the North-East. ‘Beauty with Brains’ was tested to the hilt by gruelling questions from the panel of eminent Judges. Other rounds conducted were the Party Wear Round, the Designer Wear Round, the Traditional Round and the Evening Gown Round. The stringent criteria and the spirit of healthy competition were most evident.
Brigadier SK Sharma was the Chief Guest for the event while Mr Okram Kennedy was the Guest of Honour. The presence of these eminent personalities provided encouragement and confidence to the participants who went on to enthral the assembled crowd.
The event concluded with the much-awaited crowning of the ‘Summer Queen 2012’ by the Chief Guest. Sylvia , Bony Laishram and Purnima Devi were declared the First and Second Runners Up, respectively.
