MNS: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has assured the Assam government of all help to deal with the flood situation in the state. The Prime Minister called the Health Minister Mr. Hemanta Biswa Sarma to enquire about the condition in the state. Dr. Manmohan Singh has also spoken to the Defence Minister Mr. A. K. Antony urging full Army assistance for the rescue and relief operations in the affected areas .
A total of 21 districts of Assam have been affected due to flood in the rivers of Brahamputra, Puthumari, Jiabharali, Burhidihing, Dhansiri, Beki and Manas.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the flood affected areas. Govt of India has deployed 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel (548 men along with 60 boats and flood rescue equipment etc) who are carrying out rescue and relief operations.
An IAF helicopter has been deployed for air dropping of the food packets and rescue operations. The Government is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with the State Government for extending the required support and assistance.
