Aizawl, July 3 NNN: The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) today demanded that the Government of Mizoram stops segregating the Hmar peoples.
In a memorandum submitted to the Mizoram government, Hmar students’ body reacted to the direction of state government of Mizoram to take measures not to allot/issue house pass/site to the ‘Hmar refugees’; measures to segregate them from the local population and not to issue job cards under MGNREGS to the Hmars in Mizoram and measures be taken not to enroll the Hmar refugees in the ensuing Special Revision of Electoral Roll, 2012 in Mizoram.
The memorandum stated that Vanhela Pachuau, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram along with officials from various departments convened a meeting on October 20, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. and derived a segregationist resolution under Memo No. D. 32020/24/2010-HMS dt. 21.11.2011, which was directed to the Hmar tribe, one of the Mizo tribes of Mizoram. According to the minutes of the meeting, R. Lalremsanga, Under Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Home Department was directed by the government to take necessary actions against the Hmar tribe on mentioned above points.
“The order, by ostracizing the Hmar tribe, spelt out measures to deny the community of their constitutional and citizenship rights. It stands against the rightful interests of a community whose rights and entitlement cannot be suppressed by a bias and unjust order. The insensitive order is detrimental to the unity and integration of the Mizos; it stands opposed to the collective interests of the same and negates the Hmar tribe of their fundamental rights. The assented order is parallel to the Nuremberg Laws that was dictated by Adolf Hitler under the Nazis,” said the memorandum. The memorandum further stated that the Hmar peoples cannot be “refugees” in Mizoram; and shall never be.
“We mould and built Mizoram with our blood and sacrifices. The sacrifices of our forefathers should not be negated by few narrow minded policy makers to serve their selfish end. Our forefathers have founded and named many of the villages and towns of Mizoram after various Hmar clans much before the colonial and imperial invasion that survive till today. The Hmars are a major tribe in Mizoram. Despite that, the attempt, on the part of the government and its institutions, to “segregate”, seclude and suppressed the Hmar peoples’ and their rights shall not be received in silence. We shall not tolerate the insulting order that has already dehumanise us. We stand with our rights and entitlement to secure the future of the Hmar peoples’ with respect and dignity; we shall not be alienated from them,” the Hmar students’ memorandum pointed out.

MNS:- President Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Flags in the successful Indian Army Women Everest Expedition Team today, here, which has created history by putting seventeen climbers ontop of Mount Everest on 25 and 26 May 2012. One of them, Subedar Rajendra Singh Jalal climbed Everest without using supplemental oxygen, the first Indian Army man to do so.
It took one full year of training and two phase selections, one at Siachen Base Camp and the other at Manali, to find and prepare the final team of seven women and ten male climbers along with the support staff. The expedition was led by Colonel Ajay Kothiyal an experienced mountaineer. The expedition was ‘Flagged Off’ by Lieutenant General Ramesh Halagali, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, on 12 Mar 2012. They set off for Kathmandu on 22 Mar 2012 from Delhi and after a strenuous trek of eighteen days, the team reached the Everest Base Camp on 14 Apr 2012. Thereafter, the mettle of each member was tested in a climb which took 45 days to achieve their mission.
The conditions at Everest are unusually difficult this year. More than 200 mountaineers aborted their mission and went back to their countries because of these adversities, the team leader informed. The overall increase in temperature was 10 0C in the Everest region which caused unstable snow/ice conditions in Khumbu ice fall, triggered frequent avalanches and caused slides of rocks and stones enroute.
The Army team attempted to reach the summit on 19 May 2012 but was forced to come back to base camp due to hostile weather conditions and heavy winds enroute to the Everest. The team started again from Base Camp on 23 May 2012 to make their second attempt to reach the summit and this time they succeeded with flying colours. All seven women and ten men of the team stood atop Mt Everest proudly on 25 and 26 May 2012. Subedar Rajendra Singh Jalal climbed Everest without supplemental oxygen and became the First Army Man to have done so. Major N Linyu and Captain Smitha became the first women from Nagaland and Karnataka respectively to have climbed Mt Everest. Apart from marking these records, the team has brought accolades and enhanced the image of the country by helping other groups tremendously.
The expedition team comprised of:
Major RS Jamwal, Deputy Leader (Jammu & Kashmir), Captain Nitin Balram Ahuja, Medical Officer cum Base Camp Manager (Maharastra), Major N Linyu (Nagaland), Major Neha Bhatnagar (Rajasthan), Captain Namrata Rathore (Uttarakhand), Captain Poonam Sangwan (Haryana), Captain Prachi R Gole (Maharastra), Captain Deepika Rathore (Rajasthan), Captain Smitha L (Karnataka), Subedar Rajendra Singh Jalal, (Uttarakhand), Subedar Tajpal Singh Negi, (Uttarakhand), Subedar Prabhudayal Bisht (Uttarakhand), Subedar Khim Chand, (Himachal Pradesh), Havildar Sherab Palden (Jammu & Kashmir), Havildar Praveen Thapa (Uttarakhand), Havildar Sonam Targais (Jammu & Kashmir), Havildar Hoshiyar Singh (Himachal Pradesh), Havildar Chander Bahadur Thapa (Uttarakhand), Lance Havildar Sudhir Singh (Punjab), Naik Unnikannan (Kerala) and Lance Naik Daljinder Singh (Punjab).
The team’s brief stay in Nepal was marked with great bonhomie and camaraderie between Nepal Army and Indian Army climbers. Gen Chhatraman Singh Gurung, The Chief of Nepal Army visited the expedition members at Everest Base Camp, prior to their summit attempt and subsequently hosted a private dinner for the team at his house. MPP demands ILP system in state

Imphal, July 3 NNN : As the movement to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur gains its momentum, the Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has demanded that the sixty legislators in the Manipur Legislative Assembly takes seriously about the issue. Imphal, July 3 NNN : As the movement to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur gains its momentum, the Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has demanded that the sixty legislators in the Manipur Legislative Assembly takes seriously about the issue.
Spearheaded by Federation for Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) there have been sit-in-protest in most parts of the state capital Imphal these days demanding for the implementation of ILP system in Manipur.
On Tuesday, president of MPP S Umananda Singh the party has been endorsing anyone pushing to implement the ILP in Manipur for several years. Umananda stated that the population of immigrants are so large in Manipur that the economic benefits have not been received by the locals.
It is worthwhile to mention that indefinite hunger strike will be launched if the government of Manipur fails to pass and implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state after the monsoon session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The Monsoon Session is underway since June 27.
Last month, advisor of Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS), K.B.Sharma, had announced that if the government of Manipur fails to pass the ILP system during the coming monsoon session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, he would launch an indefinite hunger strike until its implementation in the state.
The chief minister O.Ibobi has done many things for the territorial integrity of the state, and now the time has come for the chief minister to save the indigenous people of the state, said the renowned theatre actor of the state who is also the advisor of FRIENDS.
According to the 2001 census report, there were more than 7,00,000 migrants in Manipur, which is much more than the tribal population of the state, and so it is high time for the government to recognize the danger of the possibility of a higher rise in the population of migrants with the train reaching the capital of the state, cautioned Sharma.
He urged the government to make sure that the ILP system is passed as an Act in the coming monsoon session of the state assembly and implemented at the earliest, so as to save the indigenous people of the state from being minorities in their own land.
It can be noted that some student organisations are also gearing up to hold series of protest rallies in Manipur demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state. Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and many other groups are pulling up their loins for pressuring the government to implement the ILP in Manipur.
United Committee Manipur (UCM) had said there are 7, 05, 588 outsiders in Manipur according to the 2001 census while the Meitei population is 7, 51, 422 and the total population of the tribals is 6, 70, 782. The Meitei Muslims (Pangals) have the population of 1, 57, 204.
Meanwhile, FREINDS, an organisation spearheading the demand for the implementation of ILP in Manipur, has been campaigning and giving awareness programmes for the last several years now.
