Imphal, July 27 NNN: The Kuki civil organizations and the state Home Department on Friday agreed to set up a unit of Manipur Police commandos at Moreh town, Chandel district, sources said.

.On Friday morning, the agreement was reached during a meeting which was attended by several state police officials and representatives of Kuki NGOs based in the commercial hub Moreh town, bordering Myanmar.
At the meeting, which was held at the office premises of Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kothe, Chandel Superintendant of Police, Priyokumar, SDPO, Balram and leaders of HTC, Moreh, Kuki Women and Human Rights Organization, Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Moreh, Kuki Students’ Organisation, Moreh and Moreh Youth’s Club.
However, no media persons were invited at the meeting as it was a closed door meeting.
Reports said the two sides reached an agreement to set up a police commando unit at Moreh town with certain condition after a painstaking discussion at the meeting.
Earlier, a large number of agitating residents of Moreh town under the aegis of different Kuki civil organizations yesterday strongly protested against the state Home Department’s plan to deploy police commandos at the newly established commando post at the town. A convoy of police commandos numbering about hundred heading towards the town was blocked by them near Tengnoupal Police Station, triggering a standoff last evening.
