Imphal, July 14: Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KMHR) said on Saturday that it is a great relief for all indigenous people in Manipur and all the regions covered by Inner Line Permit (ILP) system that the state Legislative Assembly has unanimously voted for early introduction of ILP in Manipur.
The Kuki Inpi had vehemently opposed the vacation of ILP which would certainly cause disturbances to peace and social harmony in the state so a memorandum was submitted to the Indian Prime Minister in this regard during his visit to Imphal for inauguration of the Capitol Project on December 2, 2011, KMHR said .
Making an urgent appeal to the state Chief Minister, KMHR said introduction of ILP system without fail can prevent further disruption on public peace and social harmony as well as violation of human rights, adding that implementation of ILP in the state is in the hand of the present Ministry.
The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Saturday introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state of Manipur has nothing to do with the Parliament or the state assembly but Chief Minister O Ibobi can initiate to implement it if he is willing to do so.
Addressing a press conference at the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Tapir Gao, National General Secretary, BJP in-charge of Manipur made it clear that the Parliament and Manipur Legislative Assembly have no business in introducing ILP in the state of Manipur.
Tapir was here in a two-day visit mainly to garner support for the presidential candidate PA Sangma. The BJP leader also said BJP appeals particularly to the three MPs from Manipur to give conscientious vote for Sangma who is the only candidate representing the entire Northeast in the July 19 presidential election.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A Sangma is an Opposition backed candidate in the election of the top post of the country.
P Chandrasekhar Rao, Secretary, Zonal Organization, North East state BJP, who was also speaking at the press conference, said foreigners, especially Muslims coming from countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh to Manipur have posed a serious threat to the local people.
Hitting back on Chief Minister Ibobi’s remark that state BJP cannot raise its voice in Parliament, Manipur Pradesh BJP president Sh Shantikumar, who was flanked by Tapir and Rao, said the BJP shouts both in Parliament and in the state in many important issues of the state.

Imphal, July 14: Centre for Orchid Gene Conservation of the Eastern Himalayan region was inaugurated today at Hengbung, Senapati district about 55 km from Imphal by Dr T Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Even though there are opinions about disparity in development process in the north east compared to the rest of the country, nature treats all equally. The rich biodiversity is the gift of nature and people of the region should work hard to make the endeavour to popularize orchid successful.
Dr S N Puri, VC of Central Agricultural University, Imphal said in the north east we find all sort of weather found throughout the world hence it has a rich biodiversity.
Haokholet Kipgen, former MLA said orchids are globally adored for their exceeding beautiful and long lasting flowers, having contributed significantly to the development of international trade in cut flowers and potted plants. They are also therapeutically important and used to cure a variety of human ailments. Orchids are grown as cash crop in several countries, adding to the growth of their economics.
India is rich in orchid resource; the Indian Himalayan Region alone is home to nearly one thousand species. Full realization of their economic potential has, however, remained abysmally slow due to lack of awareness about these plant and non availability of suitable planting material. Additionally the natural population in the large number of species are also progressively on decline because of natural calamities (landslips, forest fires) and unregulated habitat destruction (forest fallings, jhuming) and commercial collection pressures. Several species are being illegally sent across the borders, for example: at Manipur border with Myanmar a kilo of therapeutic orchid is sold for Rs. 300-600. This in China, under eastern medicinal system, fetches $15000 per kilo.
Prof SP Vij said about 286 species were reported in Manipur and during a recent survey new species not found elsewhere in the country were found and it is estimated that about 500 species will be found when the whole state is scanned. Orchid is extremely useful and most medicines have extracts from orchids and as the gene conservation centre is established, the gene of all the orchids found in the region will be preserved so that the future generation can know that such orchids used to grow. Most orchids are endangered due to human greed and forestation he said.

New Delhi: The UPA on Saturday decided for a second term for Hamid Ansari as the Vice President. UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi declared Ansari’s name for the penultimate post. Ansari thankful for candidature, UPA says decision to field him “unanimous”Interacting with mediapersons shortly after being announced as the UPA’s candidate, Ansari thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and coalition partners for considering him for a second term at the high office.
“So rare an honour can only be accepted in all humility,” Ansari said, before thanking the Dr. Singh, Sonia Gandhi and all the parties that supported his candidature.
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that Ansari’s candidature was a “unanimous” coalition decision, “in view of the dignity and distinction with which he (Ansari) conducted and presided over the Rajya Sabha in the first term.”
On being quizzed about the Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) alleged displeasure over Ansari’s candidature, Bansal reiterated that it was a unanimous decision.
The last date for nomination for the Vice President election, scheduled for August 7, is July 20.Ansari’s term as Vice President ends on August 10. (ANI) Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh met UPA’s Vice Presidential candidate Mohammed Hamid Ansari at his residence, here on Saturday.
The Samajwadi party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) extended their support to Ansari’s candidature, with the BSP chief Mayawati reportedly calling up Ansari to express support while SP issuing a statement to that effect.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC), allegedly unhappy with the UPA’s choice, has reserved its opinion on Ansari’s candidature, with Railway Minister Mukul Roy saying that the party would decide over the issue “later.”

Good or bad any new enterprise need some time to settle down with the people. The masses need time to understand, learn and use the new technologies or concepts. It can be understood the way 3D films were heralded as the future of cinema, but their tickets are overpriced and often fail to live up to the hype, a new study has revealed.According to the research undertaken by Mintel, only a fifth of cinemagoers feel that 3D films are worth the inflated ticket prices.Films shown in 3D offer viewers deeper, three-dimensional images but tickets can cost up to 40 percent more than tickets to traditional 2D films. However only three in ten cinema-goers admitted that 3D films really improve the viewing experience.Meanwhile, three-quarters of people believe that the price of the 3D glasses – which are necessary to view the films and can add an extra 1.50 pounds to the cost of the ticket – should be included in the price.
People’s generally negative perception of 3D films has coincided with a dramatic drop in the number of people going out to watch them.According to Mintel, 22 percent of all box office tickets sold in 2011 were for 3D films. This was down from 28 percent in 2010.Although the steep decline was partly due to the huge success of Oscar-winning Avatar in 2010, there are other factors at play.“People who have been to 3D movies say that they like them technically but they don’t think they are particularly good value for money,” the Telegraph quoted Michael Oliver, leisure analyst at Mintel and the author of the report, as saying. He said that poor-quality 3D titles have dented people’s enjoyment of the films.
“The problem is that some films work very well in 3D and others don’t. And it’s the ones that don’t that really damage the industry because everyone has jumped on the bandwagon and thought this is a really good way to get an extra 40 per cent in ticket revenues, and it doesn’t really work that well,” Oliver said.He also attributed the strained economic condition of the people to making them think twice before going for 3D movie.
“People look at 3D and think ‘another 40 per cent’. If you are a family with three children and you are going to buy loads of popcorn and drinks then an extra 40pc on 4 tickets makes quite a big difference, so a lot of people have traded down to 2D,” he said. The number of 3D digital screens in the UK has increased 30-fold in the last five years. There were just 47 3D screens in 2007 – equivalent to 8 per cent of all screens in the UK. This figure increased to 1,475 last year – equivalent to 71 per cent of all screens. “It has got its place and when used correctly and properly it adds tremendously to the experience. But it is not suited to every single film that comes out,” he said.
