CCpur, Aug 27 NNN : T . Dongzapau , 67, a resident of Mualveng has succumbed to his injury last night. T Dongzapau got injured in his abdomen when one police constable on duty fired accidentally from his service weapon at the felicitation programme of Olympic Games medalist M.C Mary Kom on Sunday near Public Ground in Churachandpur headquarters in south Manipur.
On Monday, the district police reached to an understanding with the victim’s family members after a compromise deal.
The incident happened yesterday when T Dongzapau after having had attended the the felicitation programme of Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom at Public Ground in Churachandpur district headquarters, was heading home when a police man on duty accidentally fired from his service weapon and hit him in his stomach. He was bleeding profusely. Some people immediately rushed him to the district hospital but he was referred to Shija Hospital in Imphal by the doctors.
On his way to Imphal Dongzapau succumbed.
Meanwhile, the Paite Tribe Council (PTC) Young Paite Association (YPA) and the Siamsinpawlpi ( SSPP) have condemned the incident in the strongest term on Monday.
They said the “shooting and killing” of T. Dongzapau s/o (L) T Ngulkhanthang of Mualveng , Hiangtam Lamka by the state police constable with his service rifle AK – 47 was another shocking incident which exposed the lack of discipline in the rank and file of the state forces, adding that it tantamount to state sponsored terrorism where innocent civilians become victims of terror act . These civil bodies said no armed groups should be permitted to carry out such “devilish act” and disturb the peace and communal harmony in the district in particular and the state as a whole. They urged the district administration and the state government to take action against the perpetrator.
