IMPHAL, Sept 3 MNS : A person was killed when an IED exploded at Nongpok Keithelmanbi Makha Leikai under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal district today around 6.30 am.
Sanabam Tonjon, 23, son of S Gopen died on the spot when the IED planted by unidentified miscreants at the backyard of his residence exploded and hit him around 6:20 a.m.
The incident happened when Tonjon entered the backyard to take his fish hook planning for fishing in the river, his family said. Before he worked as a handyman of a truck but left the job two month ago.
Decrying the blast which killed Tonjon, large number of local residents held a public meeting at the locality later in the afternoon and formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection with the killing. They also submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister through Andro MLA Shyamkumar.
The memorandum demands a further thorough search to clean the surrounding area where the blast took place to appease the neighbours from fear of bombs. It also demands immediate clarification from those involved in the bomb explosion and an ex-gratia to the next of kin.
Meanwhile, Tonjon’s body has been handed over to the family just after completion of autopsy at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat.
