The Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to commemorate the birth day of late Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India — a great humanist, scholar, philosopher, educationist and above alJ an outstanding teacher. Irvthe ancient times in the Gurukula system, Gurus- played a pivotal role in shaping the character of their shishyas and the shishyas had high regard for moral values. Unfortunately, this accent on moral values has been gradually eroding. Therefore, the teacher community, besides educating the students, should strive to sensitize the young minds to these values, and the students on their part, should devote themselves to their studies so as to shoulder the responsibilities to be reposed in them by the society in due course. Together, they should earnestly nurture their respective institutions into a temple of excellence of learning and also make the task of nation building the central agenda of their activities.
