DIMAPUR, Sept 30 NNN: Factional hostilities between the NSCNs one led by S.S Khaplang and the other led by Khole and Kitovi continue.
Late last night, one James who is in the rank of ‘second lieutenant’ in the S.S Khaplang group of NSCN was attacked by rival Khole/Kitovi faction of the NSCN in Kohima. On Sunday, the Khaplang faction alleged that at around 10:30 pm, James was undergoing medical treatment at A.G Colony in Kohima when he was attacked by the rival group. “Fortunately, our man escaped unhurt,” said the NSCN-K.
“The NSCN GPRN (NSCN-Khaplang) once again reiterates our commitment to maintain peace and tranquility but strongly cautions that taking our humanely gesture for weakness shall be befittingly responded with iron hand if the Khehoi cadres (Khole/Kitovi group) continue to target our cadres and officials. The call for maintaining peace and tranquility in Naga society by the various NGOs specially led by Angami Youth Origination (AYO) in the state capital has been continuously violated time and again by the so-called GPRN (Khole-Kitovi) group which has once again displayed its true colour by attacking unarmed NSCN officer in Kohima town,” stated the NSCN-K today issued by its ministry of publicity (MIP).
“It may also be noted here that on August 3 the Khehoi group (Khole/Kitovi group) killed 3 unarmed cadres of our outfit in the heart of Kohima town but we restrained our cadres from taking counter action because the NGOs under the banner of AYO had called for cessation of all hostilities and bloodshed among all Naga political groups. The leniency of the public and security forces had further encouraged them to carry on with their nefarious activities while the NSCN is patiently waiting for the people’s response towards such unwanted and ugly activities being carried out in the name of Naga national movement. But the NSCN is compelled to remind everyone that it will be compelled to initiate counter action if the people failed to take proper and befitting action against those criminals in the guise of national workers. The NSCN while committing itself for peace strongly cautions that the time has come for responding.

Chief Minister O. Ibobi’s son Kennedy has done a good thing by involving his father in taking up tree plantation programme. The initiative taken by the young lad with a mission to make Manipur a greenery place should achieve the fruit of success. Government office complexes scattered here and there at different parts of the state look like barren land without any trees. The heads of these Government offices can be asked to plant more trees at the precinct of their offices. Manipur needs to pay attention in taking up tree plantation programme in large scale. Hills are denuded as jhumias resort to burning of forest wealth. Come winter everyone will witness hills on fire in the night, which extends from top to bottom. It was done by the evil elements to get some fire wood and some patches for growing vegetables. They do not try to gauge the extent of damage done by such fire. For getting a few hundreds of rupees, they could resort to the practice hated by all living things. Unless these jhumias are properly rehabilitated forest wealth will continue to be plundered using methods best suited to them. They need to be told that jhum cultivation is not remunerative. What is required is making them realise the harms brought on the earth by the wanton destruction of forest wealth. Here arises the simple question who could do that. There are large numbers of non Government organisations that deal with giving benefits to destitute children or persons infected with incurable disease. These organisations are doing wonderful job in the field of their choice. Likewise NGOs that should be able to work for protection of forest wealth and ecology need to be formed. Fund will be no problem for such organisation. Government of India, which gives the thrust to giving benefits to private partners in taking up developmental programmes, will not turn away when such organisations seek help from the centre. Equally at par these sports organisations or cultural organisations scattered here and there in the valley districts of the state can be encouraged to plant trees at the place of their choice by extending some monetary benefit in the same pattern people’s representatives giving financial help for launching cleanliness programmes. These national highway roads passing through Manipur are without any shade. If trees are planted on both sides of the roads driving along the national highway roads will be a pleasant experience. Chief Minister’s son who has formed an NGO under the banner greenery army can think of focussing in this area. Using the clout of power his father commands and the man power that will be available the war against ecological imbalance can be made a successful venture. He has become a man of the hour for the venture he has made. He requires support and encouragement from all. Do more. Remember as you take up the ambitious task of transforming Manipur a place for green plants you simply enhance your father’s image. Manipur needs youngsters, who will work for a better future. The future belongs to them. Encourage them to do more.

IMPHAL, Sept 30 NNN: The students’ organisations based in the hill districts of Manipur are likely to resort to further course of agitation on the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) forms and examination centres within the next few days.
The hill based students’ bodies will convene a meeting on October 1 (Monday) in this connection to chalk out course of action or agitation.
Under the aegis of Joint Committee of Hill Districts Student Organisation (JCHDSO), the hill based students’ organisations including Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM), Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Naga Students Union, Chandel (NSUC) had already called a 48-hour hill districts bandh on September 24 and 25 in protest against the non-issuing of TET forms and opening of exam centres in the hill districts.
“Protesting against the State government decision regarding the TET exam centres to be confined only in the valley districts and demanding for Teacher Eligibility Test examination centres in all the hill districts, the Joint Committee of Hill Districts Students’ Organisations (JCHDSO) consisting of different students’ organisation of the hill districts such as ZSUM representing Tamenglong district, TKS for Ukhrul, SDSA for Senapati, NSUC for Chandel and CDSU for Churachandpur had called 48 hours hill districts bandh on September 24 and 25. Following the invitation for talk from the State government the State government led by state education minister Oken, Nasir who is the Agriculture minister and other MLAs namely Mr. Kikhonbou, Mr. Preshaw, Mr. Yamthong Haokip, Mr. Valte Vungjagin and other MLAs and JCHDSO led by its convenor and members of the committee had a meeting on September 26.
During the meeting, the ministers and MLAs representing the government gave an assurance that the matter will be discussed with the chief minister,” JCHDSO convenor D Stephen Zeme claimed.
The JCHDSO issued an ultimatum to the state government through a press conference convened on September 27 in which it was declared to the public that further steps would be taken up after the expiry of 3 days’ times. “Now, three days have been lapsed without any positive step from the state government till date,” said D Stephen.
The Manipur government’s denial of TET exam centres in the hill districts is in total violation of the Article 16(1) of the Indian Constitution wherein it is clearly provided that there shall be equality of opportunity in matters of public employment.

Irawat celebration committee Manipur observed the day at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen. Participants led by CPI leader, M. Ibohal brought the life size photo of the leader from Irawat Bhawan to the Iboyaima Shanglen where the gathering honoured him. About 42 contingents compete in march past competition. All India students federation organized a state level march past competition. M. Ibohal, leader of CPI, P. Parijat, president ICC, CPI state secy. Dr. M. Nara, secretariat member N. Mangi, S. Sorojini, president Manipur Nupi marup were the presidium members. Helim Choudhury ) Chairperson, MSMC, Prof. Gangmumei Kamei also attended the function as special guest.
The day organized by Janneta Hijam Irawat birth day celebration committee was also held at MDU Hall RK Anand, MLA, Meitram Shamu chairman of the committee, N. Binoy, president, senior citizen for society, Ksh. Ibohal, president MDU, Sarat Salam, state secretariat member CPI and others also attended the function.

Meinya stated that Irabot was not only the leader of Manipur but also the leader of all mankind who had worked effortlessly to bring unity and change in the society and added that the stalwart had his own principles like the one of Lenin and Gandhi. There is a feeling of class differences among the people of the state in the present society. One this particular day, let us pray that the wall will break soon, he appealed.
Recalling the leader, Dr. Ratankumar said that in history people in the world have witnessed the emergence of leaders in every society when it needed in a bad time, such is the same at the case of Hijam Irabot, adding that one should follow the footsteps of the leader in order to bring peace and unity in the society.
Another such ceremony was also held at Laikhulembi Shanglen, Khurai organised by the Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee, Manipur today.
