M Panmei death anniversary

The 43rd death anniversary of Meingan Panmei falls on September 6.
According to Zeliangrong periodical called Makam Post, the Zeliangrong patriarch of Christendom and martyr for peace Meingan Panmei who was a Field Director, Zeliangrong Christian Association i.e. MBA-IV (under MBC & CBCNEI, the erstwhile CBCA), was assassinated by unidentified gunmen on September 6, 1969.
The magazine said Meingan Panmei deserves a befitting homage by the entire Naga society and the Zeliangrong people in particular. “He was a prominent member of Indo-Naga Peace Mision who contributed much towards bringing peace in Nagaland when Naga Independence movement was at its height, along with Rev. Michael Scott, M.K. Priyobrata Singh, Shankar Rao, J.P. Narayan, B.P. Chaliha, Rev. V. Phanitphang and a galaxy of many other peace activists. He was also said to have been in-charge of “map” of the ceasefire which covered the whole Naga inhabited areas,” according to Makam Post magazine.
This periodical then extends heartfelt solidarity to Mrs. P. Ariang and family members of the late leader on the occasion of the 43rd death anniversary observation at Tamenglong headquarters and shares the momentus remembrance with the deep pangs of sorrow for the irreparable loss of a dynamic multi-leader as well as promoter of raditional culture, identity, social unity and communal harmony among the diverse entities, educationist and upholder of women’s rights, socio-political and economic promoter and he bore a secular outlook as to accommodate all interests.

Imphal, Sep 5 : : The teachers day 2012 organised by was observed today at the premises of the directorate Lamphelpat.
M. Okendra minister education, S. Dilip director education, RK Anand MLA graced the occasion as chief guest, president and guest of honour. Seven teachers of different schools were honoured by giving state teachers awards 2012 at the occasion. The teacher were naorem Debal Singh head master Chabung Company Chirai Junior high school, Mrs. Laltheingzo assistant head master Renkai higher secondary school, N. Chandrajini Devi lecturer TG higher secondary school, KSh Promila Devi head master Budhimanjuri junior high school, Dr. S. shantibala Devi head master Bishnupur Kha junior high school, S. Nabakumar head master Kasturba girls junior head master and Th. Indubala Devi head master Irilbung high school.
Seven teachers were given prizes and eleven educational institutes which produced toppers were also given prizes. M Okendro speaking on the occasion said the government is trying to establish a higher secondary school in every constituency. He said to help students from far flung areas hostels will be constructed in the city areas. An education policy will also be framed to improve education system in the state he assured.
On the occasion of Teacher’s day, the Senapati brigade, organized a get-together, to felicitate the teachers of Tahamzam Career point, for dedicating their lives to the noble cause of education. The teachers tutoring here are well accomplished personalities in their respective fields and are putting efforts beyond their regular errands to channelize and motivate the youth to become responsible citizens who could par take with the mainland youth. Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen, VSM, GOC Red Shield Division, has extended his compliments to all teachers , on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.

AR points hand to Cor Com Three AR personnel injured in blast

Imphal, Sep 5 : Two havildars of the 28 Assam Rifles were wounded in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Keishampat in the heart of the Imphal on Wednesday.
The injured have been identified as Rajendra Kumar, 32, a havildar, son of Gopal Ram, hailing from the village of Kotyared in Almari district, Uttarkhand and Birendra, 40, also a havildar from the state of Himachal Pradesh. They were taken to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here for medical treatment.
Reports said the blast ocurred around 8:40 a.m. when the IED believed to have planted on a scooter grey in colour targeted at the 28 Assam Rifles team, injuring two of them, one critically. The security personnel were taking rest at the spot after an ROP duty for the day when the IED exploded. The registration number of the two wheeler involved in the blast was MN0-4 1242. The scooter was completely destroyed in the explosion. One Tata Magic van and another Hyundai i10 car were also damaged in the blast.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
In the meantime, womenfolk of Keishampat staged a sit-in to protest the attack and appealed to all concerned not to repeat such incident in such a densely populated area in future.
Meanwhile, one rifleman of City Police was hurt when a Sub-inspector accidentally fired one shot from his service revolver at Imphal City Police Station.
The wounded is identified as Chabungbam Iboyaima, 32, son of late Ch Lilasingh, a resident of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai and the SI as AK Dilip from Thoubal district.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. when AK Dilip accidentally fired one shot from his service revolver which hit in Iboyaima’s right neck.
He was rushed to Raj Polyclinic but referred to Shija Hospital .
A HQ IGAR S press hand out said in view of the forth coming Panchayat elections in the Imphal Valley and the festive season ahead underground groups have planned to disturb fragile peace in Manipur by intensifying their subversive activities such as bomb blast, targeting media people and Govt employees, planting of IEDs and lobbing of grenades near important institution and at residents of Govt employees. To support their malicious intentions, large numbers of attempts are being made by various underground outfits to infiltrate from International Border in order to create disturbance in the State. Troops of Assam Rifles, being on high alert and maintaining strict vigilance by dominating International Border have foiled many infiltration attempts made by various groups in recent past. This has contributed immensely in ensuring environmental security to the people of Manipur. A combination of failed infiltration attempts, large number of surrenders evident by two recent surrender ceremonies at Mantripukhri, inability of the undergrounds to interfere with coming panchayat elections and disturb prevalent peace in the Manipur state has left the CorCom demoralised and disparate. In desperation and in an attempt to make their presence felt, the CorCom has started resorting to acts which might endanger the local population, if their nefarious designs succeed. In one such attempt today at 0845h an IED exploded near Keishampat Junction which led to two Jawans of Assam Rifles and a civilian suffering minor injuries. The cowardly action carried out by CorCom shows the frustration among the insurgent groups who wants peace, tranquility and prosperity in Manipur to be disturbed at any cost. Undeterred troops of Assam Rifles along with other Security Forces are ready for supreme sacrifice to defeat nefarious designs of UG groups and ensure that none of the evil design of the terrorist fructify it was added.”

ZUF to oppose oil exploration

TAMENGLONG, Sept 5: The militant outfit Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has said that exploration or excavation of mineral deposits in Zeliangrong areas will not be tolerated by the outfit.
The ZUF said that the ongoing public hearing or the seismic survey, investigation and drilling as part of oil exploration in the Zeliangrong inhabited areas especially in Temenglong district, Churachanpur district, Jiribam, sub-division should halt immediately. “ZUF will not torerate any arbitrary attempt or project to excavate mineral resources in the Zeliangrong lands in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland,” the outfit asserted.
Any attempt to extract mineral resources without consulting the indigenous people connected with the effected lands amounted to violation of human rights and exploitation of traditional land use system of the tribal people, it said while adding, “Article 371(a), (b) and (c) of Indian Constitution and the UN charter of Human Rights including the right of the indigenous people should be recalled to protect rights of the effected indigenous people. NGOs and other vested interest groups or individual are against further trespasses into the indigenous lands”.
The ZUF has been striving hard to protect the natural resources and public properties especially lands, the outfit claimed.
The outfit then asks to all those who have issued no objection certificates (NOC) in favour of oil exploration in Zeliangrong areas should withdraw immediately.
The ZUF is also opposed to the “irresponsible attitude” of the Indian Army at Khoupum valley who tried to create trouble by questioning civilians accusing them as members of the Zeliangrong Tigers Force (ZTF), the armed wing of ZUF with fake photographs. “The security force personnel have raided civilian areas showing the false photos on August 28 and 29. This should be discontinued as it tender to yield nothing but trouble,” it warns.

NESO leaders meet CMs of Southern states

GUWAHATI, Sept 5 NNN: North East Students Organisation (NESO) leaders have met the chief ministers of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh in the last three days and discussed matters for the safety of the people from the North East region in the southern states of India.
On the eve of its bandh in the region, NESO adviser S. Artax informed Newmai News Network this evening that the state government concerned should ensure the safety of North East people in the mainland India by formulating effective mechanism and measures. The NESO adviser also said that institutions ans companies or even the governments in the state of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka should not victimise the people of the North East region for their absence in their work places during the recent exodus. “The people from our region had fled as they were compelled by the volatile situation. When these people return back to their work places, they should not be victimised,” asserted S Artax.
The NESO adviser then demanded that all the Bangladeshi citizens who had come to India with valid documents but untraceable in the country should be booked by the government without losing time. Over 80 thousand people from the neighbouring country have “disappeared” in the country in the last three years.
Meanwhile, NESO is all set to hold a massive rally on Thursday from a place called Latasil in Guwahati. Chief ministers of the north eastern states have been invited to participate in the rally tomorrow. It is expected that the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region are likely to join the rally. When the rest of the North Eastern states will witness bandh, a massive rally has been planned in Guwahati in protest against the recent episode where people from the North East region have been discriminated in the mainland India and the callous attitude of the central government in the matter.
On August 23 in Guwahati, issues on the illegal immigrants in the north east region, the prolonging fencing process of the government of India along the Indo-Bangla border and a policy to ensure the safety of the north east people in the mainland India were disccused in the NESO meeting.
The NESO units from all the North Eastern states participated in that meeting where they had deliberated that the government of India should ensure to check the influx of foreigners illegally in the north east region. The need to have a comprehensive policy to detect and deport the illegal immigrants from the north east region should be made by the government of India was also stressed in the meeting.
The NESO leaders had also pointed out the prolonging period to complete the fencing work in the Indo-Bangla border when the same could be done in the Indo-Pakistan border within a short period. “There are so many porous areas in the Indo Bangla border which have been serving as gate-ways for illegal immigrants,” one of the NESO functionary had said.

Atulchandra Singh on Monday, September10 at 11:30 am at the premises of the Canchipur high school. In the occasion in which Dr. Th. Purnima head, department of library and information science, Manipur University and H. Jilla Singh, head master, Canchipur high school are to grace as the occasion as chief guest and president respectively, Dr. T. Tomba singh as the invited speaker, will deliver the Stulchandra memorial lecture-2012 on the theme “role of school library in quality education in Manipur”. As apart of the programme, the 29th book of the mala entitled napu machugi kakcheng of l.c. Lalhanba will also be released.
Former principal, College, Bishnupur and a renowned critic, Salam Tomba will review the book. As a mark of respect, floral tribute will be given to the statue of late Dr. Huirongbam Atulchnadra who established the Canchipur high school
During theprogramme.lt may kindly be noted that Atulchandra was one of the pioneers of die library movement of Manipur who establish the manipur club on 7th April, 1927 to render library services in a formalised manner mostly to the students and youths of the adjoining areas of the Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai. He renamed the club as Manipur club library on the 1st January, 1931 and again on 19th April, 1933 the name of the library has been changed to Juvabati memorial library dedicating it to his beloved mother late chonu {juvabati). Not only in the field of library Atulchandra was a multifaceted personality of the 20th century. On his 115th birth anniversary the Manipur library association pays its humble tribute by organising the memorial lecture.

MTPRM urges government to look after fisher

IMPHAL, Sept 5 NNN: The Movement for Tribal People’s Rights, Manipur (MTPRM) has now expressed concerned for fish farmers of Manipur and urged the government to continue with its assistance to the fish farmers.
MTPRM said it has learnt that benefits in the form of subsidies to the fish farmers under National Fisheries Development (NFDB), the only central fund out of 106 possible central funding sources, have been totally stopped for a period of nearly three years.
It is also learnt that only 263 fish farmers were benefited while more than 150 beneficiaries were kept on the backlog, said the tribal rights body.
“These tantamount to discrepancy and partiality. It is also anomaly to replace an efficient state project co-ordinator who could earn special central package under NFDB by someone who could not continue to avail the same and meted out partiality and deprivation of funds to the fish farmers out of incompetency.
These rampant discrepancies and anomalies are happening on the behest of the present Director of State Fisheries Department,” the MTPRM stated.
It therefore, demanded for the immediate removal of the State Fisheries Director and State Fisheries Project Co-ordinator and replace them with the competent and officials who can rise up to the occasion and bring glories in the Fisheries Department of Manipur State at the earliest. “We are also compelled to forewarn that failure to rectify the same in a prompt manner by the State authority shall invite stringent reactions with all sorts of intense democratic movements calling upon our hill and valley comrades,” the tribal rights body cautions.
The MTPRM then said it endorses the recent statement of the Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI) in the matter.

New Delhi, Sep 5 : The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against twenty accused persons including the then Minister of State for Home, Govt. of Gujarat; the then DIGP, Border Range, Bhuj Kutch; the then SP, ATS, Ahmedabad; the then SP, Udaipur(Rajasthan); the then SP, Banaskantha (Gujarat); the then Circle Inspector, PS Pratap Nagar, Udaipur (Rajasthan); the then ASI & the then three Constables of Reserve Police Lines, Udaipur (Rajasthan); the then PSI, the then ASI, two Head Constables & two Constables of SOG, Palanpur(Gujarat); the then DGP; the then IGP, CID (Crime & Railways); the then ADGP, CID (Crime & Railways) and the then Dy.SP, CID (Crime), all of Gujarat Police for the offences of Criminal Conspiracy, Murder, Destruction of Evidence & offences under the Arms Act in the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Danta, Distt. Banaskantha(Gujarat) on 04.09.12 in an alleged fake encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati Case. The next date in the matter has been fixed on 10.09.2012 by the Court.The CBI had earlier registered the case on 29.4.11 on the orders of Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition(Crl) No.115/2007 filed by the mother of Tulsiram Prajapati against the police officials of Gujarat State & Rajasthan State in an alleged fake encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati.After thorough investigation, a chargesheet has been filed.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it.

Imphal, Sep 5 : The induction programme of the newly admitted students of Dental College, RIMS, was held today in the Mini Auditorium. Prof S. Sekharjit, Director, Prof N. Damayanti, HOD, Anatomy E. Debendro , Deputy Director (Adm), members of Dental College Development Committee, Prof T. Nabachandra, principal i/c, Prof D. Kaushik, Dean (academic) were in the dais.
The Dental College was formally opened on August 28. However the Director said that the classes would begin once the MU gives the nod. There are 50 seats in the college of which 15% seats are set aside for the all India quota. The remaining seats will be shared by the NE states excluding Assam.
The speakers underlined the need for the students to study hard, attend the classes and spend their time in furtherance of their studies.
The Director also explained in detail the facilities available in RIMS and what courses the BDS students shall undergo in the four-year study plus 1 year internship.
He also disclosed that apart from MBBS course there are post graduate, B.Sc nursing, M Phil in clinical psychology, BDS and diploma in hearing language speech.
Prof Damayanti said that after much hard works the permission to start the Dental college was obtained. She also asked the students to learn to stand in their own legs since they no longer will get direct support from parents now. The rules and regulations are very strict and any violation shall not be tolerated.
