Imphal, Oct 6 : Two personnel of 6/8 Gorkha Regiment were injured when fired upon by armed militants at Bishenpur district. The army personnel were on a foot patrol around 9:30 am .
The attack took place at Penjang village areas near Leimatak in Bishnupur district under Bishnupur police station
The two jawan were identified as Manoj Subha (25) who sustained injured in hand and leg and Anil Adhikari (21) who got wounds on his stomach and is stated to be in a critical condition .
Explosive
Imphal West police has recovered highly explosive material supposed to be carried out subversive activities in Imphal areas specially to attack the state security personnel on Saturday.
This was said by the SP Imphal west K. Jayenta in a press conference held at Imphal west police headquarter conference hall.
He said the militant killed during an encounter with a team of Imphal West district police commandos on October 1 at Takyel Khongbal Road leading to National Highway -37 has been identified and police say he was a hardcore cadre of the banned Kanglei Yaon Kanna Lup (KYKL).
As identified by the family members, the slain militant is one Sapam Ranjan aged 18, son of S Ratan Meitei of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, a hardcore trained cadre of KYKL who joined the group eight years ago, said K Jayenta, Superintendant of Police, Imphal West at a press briefing at his office today.
He further said it has been established that he had been assigned to carry out subversive activities in Imphal area by detonating IEDs to target security forces and market areas. For the purpose, the KYKL militant had brought huge quantity of explosives and kept concealed them in Sagolband area, the SP claimed, saying the explosives were recovered by the police from Sagolband Khamnam Leirak yesterday.
The seized items included 12 RDX slabs weighing about 500 gm each, three remote control key devices, 15 electric detonator wires, 12 electric circuit boards and eight dry cell batteries, Jayenta added.
The said explosive was recovered by a team of police from Sagolband Khanman Leirak from one canal which dumped on the evening of 5th October. The recovered explosive materials are 12 numbers of RDX slab weighing about 500 gram, 3 numbers of Remote Control Key Device, 15 numbers of Electric detonator wire, 12 numbers of Electricity circuit board and 8 numbers of dry cell battery containing inside a bag.
From the examination of the recovered items with the state bomb experts it is revealed that the KYKL cadres were planning to carry out serial of blast in Imphal city areas, However with the timely detection of the explosives series of blast can be prevented said the SP.
Attack on SP
Meanwhile People’s revolutionary party of Kangleipak (Progressive), Department of publicity & propaganda has claimed responsibility for the attack on SP, Chandel on Oct 4 last. Boby Mangang) Senior Publicity Officer said in a statement a unit of its COBRA TASK FORCE carried out the attack.On Sep 23 a bomb was planted at Tiddim ground .
Militants nabbed
Meanwhile discovering the presence of UG cadres in Namukhong Wakchinglok of Thoubal district, troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) area along with Thoubal Police launched joint operation in the area and apprehended two PLA cadres on 05 Oct 12. The apprehendees were identified as No 2037 SS Cpl Paolinmol Vaiphei alias Momoi alias Moi, 25 years, s/o Kailun Vaiphei, r/o Kananphai Andro Khunou Tarongthel and Mangleanlal Vaiphei,23 yrs,s/o Soigingthang Vaiphei,r/o Molkonbong. On interrogation, they revealed that they were tasked to plant IED against Security Forces in Thoubal District. One 9 mm Pistol with magazine,three Live rounds,two kgs of Plastic explosives and two detonators were recovered from the apprehendees who alongwith recoveries was handed over to Thoubal police station.
Grenade found
In yet another incident, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) intercepted an unexploded Grenade from road near to Minuthong transit Camp in the early morning on 06 Oct 12. The foot patrol of the Unit, while carrying out search of the area found a grenade placed on the side of the road alongwith a demand letter of PREPAK. The area was cordon off by the troops and Bomb disposal squad of the Imphal West police was informed. Later they retrieved same. The extra alertness and vigilance exercised by the troops avoided an incident over come.
