IMPHAL, Oct 3: Manipur’s indigenous “salad” which was displayed during a food festival held this year has booked a place in Limca Book of Record, Asia Book of Record and India Book of Record.
The “salad” was displayed during the 3rd International Chinjaak Festival which was held on April 20 to April 29 at Iboyaima Shanglen, Imphal. It was prepared and presented by a team of 15 volunteers of Innovative Youth Society of the state on April 27.
Addressing media persons on the sideline of the achievement at Hotel Imphal here today, Khuraijam Athouba, Secretary of Innovative Youth Society said that the “salad” which is 100 metres and 6 inches long was prepared in a time period of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 51 seconds by the volunteers which it also becomes the longest made salad ever in the said duration.
Explaining on how the item was included in the record book, Athouba said, “The recognition and certification on our salad was done after our team had sent a documentation clip about the preparation and demonstration to the record book authorities”.
While expressing that the society is planning to organise such kind of attractive events in the near future, he further stated that the achievement would boost the state’s tourism sector by inviting more tourists in the state.

IMPHAL, Oct 3: The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed its deeply concerned at the violent exchange of underground organisations in Tamenglong district headquarters yesterday in which an innocent civilian Jakailung Gangmei was killed. “The recurrence of violence particularly in populated areas has come as a rude shock and has caused widespread insecurity and panic among the civil populace in the area,” the UNC expressed.
“The movement for reconciliation among the Naga political groups initiated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has been making much progress with the blessing and endorsement of the Naga people. Side by side the negotiation on the Naga political issue is said to have reached an advanced stage. Therefore, we fervently appeal to the parties concern to discard confrontationist positions and to make use of the space for dialogue and communication as violence will only complicate and aggravate the situation,” it appeals.
The UNC then stated, “While acknowledging the Zeliangrong civil society organizations and churches for their ceaseless efforts towards reconciliation and peace, we also appeal to the general public of the area for reason and good sense in handling the highly vitiated situation so that peace and goodwill among the Naga brethren is restored at the earliest”.
“May the soul of Jakailung Gangmei rest in eternal peace and may the Almighty God provides his family and loved ones the grace and solace to bear the irreparable loss,” the Naga body prays.

New Delhi, Oct 3 (ANI): The Election Commission on Wednesday announced a two-phased poll in Gujarat and single-phase poll in Himachal Pradesh.
The first phase of the Gujarat assembly polls will be held on December 13, while the second will take place on December 17. Polls in Himachal Pradesh will be held on November 4.
The counting of votes for both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will take place on December 20.
Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, who announced the poll dates for both states here today, said the duration of present state assemblies in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh come to an end on January 17, 2013, and January 10, 2013 respectively.
More than 35,000 personnel from central paramilitary forces and around 55,000 from state police are likely to be deployed for the Gujarat polls.
Around 9,000 personnel from paramilitary forces and 14,000 from state police are likely to be deployed for Himachal Pradesh elections.
While Gujarat has 182 assembly constituencies, 13 of which are reserved for SCs and 26 for STs, Himachal Pradesh has 68 assembly seats, with17 reserved for SCs and 3 for STs.
Sampath said that 3.78 crore voters would be eligible to exercise their franchise in Gujarat, while 45 lakh voters would vote in Himachal Pradesh.

IMPHAL, Oct 3: Against backdrop of the allegations that he had embezzled party fund, former MLA and Manipur State NCP chief who is also the former chief minister of Manipur Radhabinod Koijam (RB) today not only lashing out at his own partyman MLA Ibomcha accusing him of eating up of huge party fund but detailed about the amount the NCP, Manipur unit was funded in the last assembly election.
Radhbinod Koijam who is also the Opposition leader in Manipur Legislative Assembly countercharged NCP MLA Ibomcha that the Keishamthong constituency representative was the real man who had misused the party money and not him.
“A criminal suit will be filed against Ibomcha for his absolutely groundless charges against me,” former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam threatened while interacting with the media at his residence here on Wednesday.
The Nationalist Congress Party, Manipur State Unit has been locked in a serious dispute over the post of State party president following he submitted his resignation letter to the party national president on March 6 this year. But the NCP chief Sharad Pawar had rejected the resignation letter. However, in April this year, Radhabonod was re-elected as State NCP president.
At the interation with the media, Radhabinod flanked by State NCP vice president Wangnukom, general secretary Md Rahimuddin and other mmbers, said he took the decision after the party was utterly defeated in the last Manipur assembly polls.
At the same time, NCP national general secretary TP Peethambaran Master had issued an order on June 22 last which said that the Manipur State NCP president Radhabinod Koijam along with the party State committee had been dissolved and formed an adhoc committee with MLA Ibomcha its convenor.
On the other hand, according to a court ruling, the adhoc committee was restricted from functioning.

The President of India Pranab Mukherjee will confer the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Akademi Awards for 2011 at a special ceremony on October 9 at 1200 hours at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi .
This year eleven eminent personalities will be conferred with Akademi Fellowships and thirty six artists will receive the Akademi Awards.
The Akademi Fellowship (Akademi Ratna) and Akademi Award (Akademi Puraskar) are recognized as the highest national honours conferred on performing artists, gurus and scholars of the performing arts and have come to stay as the most coveted honour which the artistes aspire to. These honours are decided by Akademi’s General Council, the apex body consisting of eminent artistes, scholars and nominees of Government of India and of different States and Union Territories of the country.
Manipuri dance personality Rajkumar Singhajit Singh and theatre personality Heisnam Kanhailal are among eleven personalities who will receive the Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour of Sangeet Natak Akademi. Other Akademi fellows are Mukund Lath, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shivkumar Sharma, Amjad Ali Khan, Umayalpuram Kasiviswanatha Sivaraman, Mohan Chandrasekaran, Shri Kalamandalam Gopi , Padma Subrahmanyam, and Chandrasekhar Basavanneppa Kambara.
They will receive purse money of Rupees three lakhs , besides an Angavastram and a Tamrapatra. The Fellowship of the Akademi is the most rare honour, which is restricted to a limited number at a given time. Presently there are only 40 living Fellows of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The eminent representatives of Music , Dance and Theatre to be honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2011 will receive purse money of Rupees one lakh, Angavastram and Tamrapatra.
In the field of Music, nine eminent artists, namely Shruti Sadolikar Katkar and Marathe Venkateshkumar for Hindustani Vocal Music , Tota Ram Sharma (Pakhawaj) and Pushpraj Ramlal Koshti (Surbahar) for Hindustani Instrumental Music , J Venkatraman for Carnatic Vocal Music, Ellapulli Mahadevaiyer Subramaniam (Ghatam), Ayyagari Syamasundaram (Veena) and Seshampatti T Sivalingam (Nagaswaram) for Carnatic Instrumental Music, and Gopal Chandra Panda (Odissi Music) for Other Major Traditions of Music, will receive the Akademi Award 2011.
In the field of Dance, nine eminent practitioners, namely Narthaki Nataraj (Bharatanatyam), Manjusree Chatterjee (Kathak), Thonnakkal Peethambaran (Kathakali), Priti Patel (Manipuri), Alekhya Punjala (Kuchipudi), Ramli Ibrahim (Odissi), V K Hymavathy (Mohiniattam), Tanusree Shankar (Creative & Experimental Dance) and Karaikudi R. Krishnamurthy (Music for Dance – Mridangam) will receive the Award for 2011.
In the field of Theatre, eight eminent persons who will be receiving the Akademi Awards are Kirti Jain for Direction, Amitabh Srivastava, Vikram Chandrakant Gokhle , Neena Tiwana and A R Srinivasan for Acting, R Nageswara Rao for Major Traditions of Theatre Company Theatre, Andhra Pradesh and Kamal Jain for Allied Theatre Arts (Lighting).
For their contribution to Other Traditional/Folk/ Tribal Music/ Dance/ Theatre and Puppetry, eight artistes – Thrippekulam Achuta Marar for Traditional Music (Kerala) , Hemant Rajabhai Chauhan for Folk Music (Gujarat), Gurmeet Bawa for Folk Music (Punjab), Kashi Ram Sahu for Folk Theatre (Chhattisgarh), Mipham Otsal for Traditional Theatre (Jammu & Kashmir) , Belagallu Veeranna for Togalu Gombeyatta, Puppetry (Karnataka), Gopal Chandra Das for Putul Nach (Tripura) and Qasim Khan Niyazi for Making of Musical Instrument (Delhi) will be conferred with the Akademi Award for the year 2011 .
Shrivatsa Goswami will receive the Akademi Award 2011 for Overall Contribution /Scholarship to Performing Arts. Alakhnandan (Theatre-Direction) and Sundari Krishnalal Shridharani (Overall Contribution) were also selected for Akademi Awards 2011. Due to their demise the said Award will be conferred on them posthumously.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards 2011 presentation ceremony will be followed by a Festival of Music , Dance and Drama featuring Fellows and Awardees of the year from 9-16 October 2012 at FICCI Auditorium, Tansen Marg, Meghdoot Theatre, Copernicus Marg, Shri Ram Centre, Safdar Hashmi Marg and Kamani Auditorium,Copernicus Marg, New Delhi. The festival will be inaugurated by Kumari Selja, Minister of Culture and Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation at FICCI Auditorium on 9 October 2012 at 6 pm.
Memoirs of Africa directed by Heisnam Kanhailal of Kalakshetra , featuring Heisnam Sabitri will be staged on October 11 at 6 pm at Meghdoot Theatre. Priti Patel’s Manipuri dance performance will be held at FICCI Auditorium on October 15 at 6pm and Nayika Mala choreographed by Rajkumar Singhajit will be staged on October 16 at 6 pm at FICCI Auditorium.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi, established by the Government of India on 31 May 1952, is the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama.
It was created as the apex body in the country for the task of preservation and promotion of the performing art tradition of India. One of the important activities of the Akademi has been to give recognition and honours to artistes for setting standards in performing arts and restoring the art and artists to their rightful place in independent India.
