Imphal, Dec 21 : Sep Neloni Mao of 1st ASSAM Regiment had attained martyrdom on 15 Dec 2012 while braving the glaciated terrain of Siachen (J&K). Sep Neloni Mao along with six of his comrades had fallen to a fatal avalanche while guarding the Northern Borders in Siachen, the highest battle field of the world, while performing his duties at altitudes above 15000 ft. Sep Neloni Mao hails from Pudunamei Village (Mao Gate) of Senapati District.
The mortal remains of the brave soldier were flown from J&K to Imphal Airport. As per the traditions of the Indian Army the ceremonial reception was given to the brave soldier and body was moved under military escort along with the family members. Last rites were performed in the native village Pudunamei with full military honour.
To support the family in the times to come, the army has numerous measures in place. The medical and Canteen facilities, applicable to the family, will continue dependents of the brave combatant will receive a family pension to help them endure and afford the demands of daily life. Similarly there is other financial assistance that will be provided to the dependents of the combatant.
Maj Gen KK Sinha, GOC Red Shield Division expressed condolence and assured all support to the family members. Funeral service of Sep Neloni Mao was held at Pudunamei Village (Mao Gate) on 21 Dec at 11 am. The Red Shield Division also paid homage to their departing comrade as a mark of reverence in unison with the bereaved family.
