IMPHAL, Jan 14: Unidentified persons launched a grenade attack on Hill Tribal Council (HTC) president Jangmang Haokip today in the border town Moreh. However, no one was hurt in the incident.
HTC is a Moreh town based organisation.
Reports said, at around 12:5 pm today, two unknown persons hurled a hand grenade from the gate of Jangmang Haokip’s residence situated at Moreh Ward number 3. The attackers aimed at the window of Jangmang’s house but for the window-net the grenade fell on the verandah and exploded.
Soon after the incident, leaders of all communities in Moreh town held a meeting and condemned the incident. The meeting resolved that a protest rally will be held in this regard in Moreh town on Tuesday. The meeting also resolved that from 6 pm today vehicular movements will be banned and will continue till 6 pm of Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jangmang Haokip appealed all elements not to repeat such attack on the civilians. He also appealed the higher authorities of all the militants outfits to advise their cadres not to intimidate the innocent public.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) also condemned the attack on Jangmang Haokip. KIM has asked those involved in today’s incident not to repeat in future.
