New Delhi, Jan 15: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an absconding accused (private person) resident of Lucknow in a case relating to cheating the Central Bank of India New Delhi and causing loss of Rs. 1.40 crores (approx).
A case was registered by CBI on a complaint received from the Central Bank of India, New Delhi. It was alleged that the accused persons entered into criminal conspiracy with each other along with officials of Central Bank of India, Patel Nagar Branch, New Delhi and cheated the Bank to the tune of Rs.1.40 crore (approx) by obtaining overdraft limit during the period 1998-99 against 3498 number of stolen & forged Kisan Vikas Patras worth Rs.1,99,55,000/- (approx) purportedly issued from Armapur Post Office, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh).
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against 13 accused persons including then Branch manager & Assistant Manager both of Central Bank of India Patel Nagar Branch, New
Delhi ; a Chartered Accountant ; Proprietors/M.D of private firms and other private persons before the Special Judge, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi. All the accused are facing the trial, except one private person of Lucknow who was absconding. The absconding accused did not join the prosecution even after issuance of arrest warrants and process of proclamation u/s 82 and 83 of Code of Criminal Procedure. He was declared Proclaimed Offender by the Court on 18.01.2002. With persistent effort, the CBI could reach his whereabouts and ultimately the absconding accused was arrested.
The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi and was remanded to Judicial Custody.
The Addl. Session Judge, Delhi has convicted accused Imran Abdulla Syed and sentenced him to undergo ten years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.Eleven lakhs in a case for possession & circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes.
This case was registered in CBI on 30.08.2010 consequent to the seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) of the face value of Rs.11.21 lakhs from accused Imran Abdulla Syed who arrived at IGI Airport, New Delhi from Karachi (Pakistan). The seized FICNs were allegedly claimed to be received from a Pakistani National.
After completion of the investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 21.12.2010 under section 120-B r/w Sec. 489-B & 489-C of IPC against accused Imran Abdulla Syed and other accused, a Pakistani National, in the Designated Court at Delhi.
The Trial Court found the accused Abdulla Syed guilty and convicted him. The other accused is absconding.

New Delhi, Jan. 15 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Tuesday termed as ‘barbaric’ the brutal killing of Indian jawans along the Line of Control (LoC), and said there cannot be business as usual with Islamabad.
Dr. Singh, who broke his silence on the prevailing tension with Pakistan on the LoC, said the attack on the Indian jawans is unacceptable.
“After this barbaric act, there cannot be business as usual with Pakistan. Pakistan must be held accountable for what happened on the LoC. Hope Pakistan will bring the perpetrators of beheading to justice. The future peace process depends on Pakistan,” television channels, quoted Dr. Singh as saying.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding tough action against Pakistan over the beheading of an Indian jawan along the Line of Control (LoC), Dr. Singh earlier on Monday spoke to senior opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
Dr. Singh, who assured both the leaders that the opposition would be kept in loop over the situation, also told them that the National Security Advisor would brief them on the developments on the LoC.
Tension between the two Asian neighbours has escalated ever since Indian jawan Lance Naik Hemraj Singh was beheaded in an attack by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control on January 8.
India yesterday lodged a strong protest against the ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC and made it clear to it that the Army reserves the right to retaliate if provoked.
The Army’s position was conveyed at a brigadier-level flag meeting between the two sides at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing-point in Poonch sector of the Jammu region.
Pakistan has denied India’s claim that its troops crossed the Line of Control to ambush a patrol party in the Mendhar sector in Poonch district. Terming the gruesome act of the brutal killing and mutilation of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops as totally unacceptable and barbaric incident.
External Affair Minister Salman Khurshid on Tuesday said the repeated denial and lack of proper response from Islamabad to our concerns will hamper bilateral relations.
Khurshid, while addressing a press conference here said “It should not be felt that the brazen denial and lack of the proper response from the Government of Pakistan to our repeated demands regarding this incident will be ignored and our bilateral relations would be unaffected or that there will be as usual,” said Khurshid.
“The government has condemned the incident in strongest possible terms and deplored the grave provocation of the Pakistan army. We have called Islamabad to carry out a proper investigation of this unacceptable action and ensure that this doesn’t reoccur.” he added.
Referring to yesterday’s Flag Meeting between India and Pakistan at Chakan Da Bagh on the LoC, the minister said that outcome of the meeting is not satisfactory but the process is still on.

MNS:- Minister for Information & Broadcasting Shri Manish Tewari has said that while self-regulation was the best way forward, as a process it had to broad based and balanced. In view of the changes taking place in the media space, it had to grow within the overarching statutory architecture existing in the country. This issue would occupy the centre-stage of discussion and the national discourse would have to introspect on the critical issues from time to time. The Minister stated this while delivering the Convocation address at the 45th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) here today.
Elaborating further, Shri Tewari said that the media landscape had undergone a strategic shift in the manner in which information was now disseminated through different tools including the new media. The change was also visible in the manner in which the information was absorbed by the recipients through technology enabled tools. The challenge before young aspiring journalists especially those who were entering in the professional media domain was to innovate and incubate ideas so as to match the contemporary trends. In view of the growth potential of the media and entertainment sector, the Minister called upon the graduating students to harness the skills of being potential entrepreneurs also. This aspirational move would enable young minds to look beyond the traditional career growth paths and tap the growth potential of this sector.
Referring to IIMC, Shri Tewari, said that while the Government was in the process of finalizing a proposal to grant the status of “Institute of National Importance” to IIMC with Degree granting powers, IIMC had to strive to become “the Golden Mean for Journalism and Journalistic Training”. This would not only enhance its potential but carve out a niche within the professional bodies and Institutions across the world. He called upon the Institute to reach out to the Alumni of the Institute to realize this vision.
Shri Tewari also called upon the graduating students to be aware of the key attributes that determined the frontiers of new era of journalism. He referred to the magnitude of media space, the technological changes taking place, the role and relevance of ethics in the functioning of media, individual role of young aspiring journalists and the debate regarding the need and necessity of self-regulation. 286 students were conferred with the Diploma at the Convocation today for courses offered in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations at the four centres of the Institute i.e. New Delhi, Dhenkanal, Aizawl and Amravati.
