IMPHAL, Jan 24 (NNN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has greeted the Zeliangrong community with the coming of the week long Chakan Gaan Ngai which kick-starts on Friday.
A Dangmei, ZUF information secretary said the festival is about dispelling the darkness of evil and ignorance towards posterity to mankind on earth. “It is proper that all the people irrespective of different faiths join to celebrate the festival being the harbinger of peace and love gifted of the rich Zeliangrong cultural heritage for all communities,” said the ZUF.
Meanwhile, the ZUF also said the birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu falls on January 26.
“The ZUF is pleased to convey the message of solidarity and social advancement left behind as a legacy by Rani Gaidinliu, a veteran freedom fighter who dared the mighty British colonialism in 1930s. Let us observe her birthday during Gaan-Ngai festival with floral tributes to the late leader and illustrious daughter of the hills, the compatriot of Rani Luxmi Bai of Jhansi, Joan –De- Arc of France as Pt. Nehru described her”, Dangmei added. Dangmei also said that ZUF also wishes that the 10th death anniversary of Ranima be observed by all on February 17 with befitting homage to the great soul and candles being lighted in every household.
