Imphal, Feb 12 : 27 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) held multi-specialty Medical, Dental cum Career Counseling Camp at Sigmaijin, in Thoubal District on Feb 12, 2013. The primary objective of the camp was to create awareness about the various diseases and their prevention and particular emphasis was laid on this aspect. The Medical Camp had the facility of various specialists including Eye, ENT, Skin, Gynecology, Surgery, Dental and Pediatrician etc. Specific OPD wards were set up to facilitate the process. Laboratory facilities for testing blood sugar, hemoglobin, ECG, as well as ELISA test for HIV infection were provided. A fully equipped state of the art Mobile Dental Clinic was also established to provide much needed dental care to the local populace.
The camp was conducted at the behest of Major General UK Gurung, AVSM,YSM, IGAR (S) who had affirmed his commitment to provide all possible help to the local populace. The agenda for the Medical Camp included Health Awareness Campaign wherein a large number of illustrative Health Educative Posters were displayed and specially trained Health Education Personnel of NACO, MACS and the State Health Services under the guidance of CMO, Thoubal District gave health talks to the people attending the Camp.
The response to the camp was overwhelming, with 1055 patients treated by the various specialists who volunteered for this noble cause. The Medical Staff who contributed their valuable time and effort were led by Dr Devakanta of RIMS and included the Medical Officers of the Assam Rifles. The initiative for raising the awareness about HIV/AIDS was pioneered by the Medical Officer of 27 Assam Rifles and the Manipur Aids Control Society. The Nursing Support was provided by the Ibotombi Nursing Institute, Porompat, Imphal and the paramedical staff of 27 Assam Rifles.
The camp also conducted Career Counseling for the local youth and guided them on the various avenues available to join the Armed Forces. An Ex Servicemen Interaction was also organized on the occasion. 30 Ex Servicemen of the area also took part with zeal and gusto in the event and many of them could be seen swapping stories of their innings in the Olive Greens.
24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) in a grand event distributed Solar Street lights to the villagers of Kwatha Khunou village under the Tengnoupal block on 12 Feb 2013. Brigadier Rajiv Mankotia,VSM, Commander 26 Sect Assam Rifles distributed the Solar Lights to the chief of Kwatha Khunou village L Iremto Meitei and the Chairman Shri N Manihar. The installation of Solar Street Lights will pave way for the overall development of the remote village. Commander also distributed stationery and furniture items to the Govt Primary School at Laibi. The people of the village and nearby villages expressed their gratitude to the insightful aids given by the Assam Rifles. The event was attended by about 60 villagers incl ladies and children also. The chief and the chairman of both the villages, in their speech expressed their hearfelt gratitude to 24 Assam Rifles for this event that culminated with tea and snacks organized at Kwatha post. Seaking on the occasion, Brigadier, Rajiv Mankotia emphasised on the development of border area and role of Assam Rifles in assisting civil administration in bringing peace and tranquillity in the region.
