Daltonganj, Feb 16 (ANI): In a major success for the Jharkhand Police, a top Maoist leader wanted in over 32 cases was arrested in rebel hotbed region of Palamu district of the state.
Top brass of the district police disclosed this to the mediapersons at Daltonganj.
One country made pistol, 25 bullets and Maoist literature were seized from the rebel leader, considered a key person in mobilising resource for the ultras.
Superintendent of Police Anup T Mathew on Friday shared details of the rebel known as Yogesh alias BKG, and said he was arrested during a raid from Kathaundha village.
“He is a highly noted Maoist leader with good organising capacity which increases his importance for the rebels. He has played a crucial role in preparing and luring recruits in rural areas thereby making this arrest important for the police,” said Mathew.
He said further that the wanted Maoist leader has at least 32 cases registered in the neighbouring state of Bihar where he used to regularly visit to make recruitments and mobilise villagers into the organisation. “He used to travel to Gaya, Palamu, Chatra, Aurangabad districts and is considered as a senior leader. We have also recovered a country made pistol and 25 bullets. He has given valuable information to the police and we would do the needful with the same,” added Mathew.
In the last few years, the rebels have stepped up their efforts to wage a war against the government and in quest of this, they have been sabotaging all development projects such as construction of roads, school buildings and setting up of health care centres. However, in the process the Maoists have lost sympathy of villagers in remote areas due to the intimidation. Often, these threats used to result in killings and abductions of hapless villagers. Maoists have significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural regions in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
