IMPHAL, Feb 1 6 NNN:The state government of Manipur and the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) during the talk today, have reached an “understanding to concede the charter of demands of the tribal students’ body within a short period of time”.
“Failing which ATSUM will be compelled to resume the agitation at any time,” ATSUM president Muan Tombing informed .
It was a lengthy talk which ended at after 8 pm today.
ATSUM had suspended its seven-day long agitation on February 10 following the government’s invitation to hold talk.
Mention may be made here that ATSUM on November 27 last year, ATSUM had apprised the government of Manipur to address issues pertaining to tribal people of Manipur and the hill districts.
The tribal students’ body of Manipur in its lengthy memorandum submitted to the chief minister of Manipur had demanded Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes.
ATSUM also demanded for the setting up of B.Ed centres in the hill districts. It also demanded that adequate teaching and non-teaching staff in the education institutions in the hill districts with better infrastructure.
