Imphal, Mar 10 : Security Forces of Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division reached out to the ESM of the Bishenpur District to organise an Ex-Servicemen Rally at N Khunou on Mar 10. The function was attended by 55 Ex-Servicemen, 12 Widows and one Veer Nari from various parts of Bishenpur District. The aim of the Ex-Servicemen Rally was to acquaint the Ex-Servicemen with the various existing and upcoming policies of the Govt of India, Ministry of Defence for betterment of Ex-Servicemen and redressal of grievances of the Ex-Servicemen.
Brig PC Nair, Commander, Logtak Brigade also attended the Ex-Servicemen Rally. The Commander interacted with the Ex-Servicemen, to acquaint himself with the problems being currently faced by them and to address them. Speaking on the occasion, Brig PC Nair, said that organising of the Ex-Servicemen rally is with an aim to reach out to all Veterans and Veer Naris of Ex-Servicemen of the entire Bishenpur Distt. It is to give an excellent platform for redressal of their pending grievances. The rally afforded the Ex-Servicemen with a composite platform for redressal of their wide ranging grievances in all spheres of life.
Apart from resolving pension related problems and resettlement issues, emphasis was also given to important issues such as medical treatment of Ex-Servicemen and their dependents under Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). Col KAK Singh, the Officer in Charge, ECHS Polyclinic, Imphal, explained to the Ex-Servicemen in detail about the functioning and limitations of the ECHS. He also explained in a very comprehensive manner the treatment procedures in vogue for the empanelled hospital and non empanelled hospital and emergency treatment. All the Ex-Servicemen were also exhorted by Col KAK Singh to spread the word to other Ex-Servicemen regarding enrolling themselves as a member of ECHS for availing the benefit of the scheme. Other issues such as documentation for issue of CSD smart cards and financial assistance by Armed Forces to Ex-Servicemen and War Widows were also clarified.
Progress on the points raised by Ex-Servicemen during last Ex-Servicemen rally and steps initiated for redressal of the same were also conveyed to them. On the side lines of the Ex-Servicemen rally a medical camp was also organised, where the Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris were provided medical facilities for minor ailments and free medicines were also distributed.

Imphal, Mar 10 : Renowned Manipuri Filmmaker and national awardee, Maibam Amuthoi Singh, popularly known as MA Singh, is no more. He passed away at BM Birla Heart Institute, Kolkata at 8:30 pm on 9th March 2013. Shri MA Singh was undergoing treatment after he was diagnosed with Deep Venous Thrombosis on his left leg. He was first treated by Dr. Kh Kala Singh of RIMS, Lamphel who performed a Thrombectomy on 8 January 2013 to clear the blood clot to restore circulation on the affected leg. After the emergency surgery proved unsuccessful, the next available medical step was amputation but considering his withering health and diabetic condition, doctors remained skeptic. As a last attempt, cardiologist, Dr. Sachindeva, referred him to BM Birla Heart Institute, Kolkata where he was admitted on 11 January 2013. After undergoing two amputation surgeries on 25th March and 28th March, he went into a coma never to gain consciousness. On 9th March 2013, he breathed his last at 8:30 pm.
Shri MA Singh is the first Manipuri to be technically trained in film craft at the prestigious national film and television Institute of India, the FTII, Pune. In fact he went on to earned another distinction of being a double graduate of FTII. After completing his diploma in film-editing in 1971, he continued pursuing film studies and completed the diploma in Direction in 1974.
Shri MA Singh is particularly known for his path breaking Manipuri feature film ‘Sana Keithel’, that went on to bagged the prestigious National Film Award with President’s Medal in the 31st National Film Festival in 1984 as the Best feature film in Manipuri. Edited and directed by him, Sana Keithel followed the neo realistic tradition of the new wave era with MA Singh daring to shoot the entire film with real character (non-actors) placed in real settings, a formula that produced the everlasting enigma of Sana Keithel.
Over and above the numerous documentary films he made, he also directed and edited the first Manipuri Colour feature film, Langlen-Thadoi produced by KP, Films, Imphal in 1977.
Besides his filmmaking activities, he served in various capacities. He was a Jury member for Script Board for NFDC for three consecutive years. He was an approved producer and director of Prasar Broadcasting Corporation of India, he was an empanelled producer of Doordarshan Imphal Kendra and Programme Production Centre, North East. He served as visiting lecturer of media study centres of different Institutes and also ran a full-fledged media course, entitled ‘Media & Media Personalities’ that produced new talents in the field of News-reading, Public Announcement, public speaking, Interviewing and Acting technology and filmmaking. During 1975 to 76, he associated with Publicity Department of Government of Manipur and compiled & edited 9 (nine) newsreels on news events in Manipur. He also worked in Mumbai film industries, Mumbai Doordarshan and Satellite Project (ISRO) Ahmadabad.
Believing that a film culture is necessary of the development of Manipuri films, Shri MA Singh played catalytic role in forming and running Cine Club Imphal and the Manipur Film Council which later became the Manipur Film Development Corporation.
Born on 18th October 1941, MA Singh, a resident of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, Imphal, is survived by his wife and four sons and one daughter.

Imphal Mar 10 UNA: The North East Student’s Organization (NESO) will hold a sit in protest in front of all the north east state Raj Bhavan on coming March 25,in demanding various scheme of education and implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the NE region.
The NESO general secretary, Prakash was addressing a press conference at All Manipur student’s Union (AMSU) office today afternoon. NESO has taken the decision to carry out the protest on an executive meeting of the office bearer last month as NE region has far lack behind from the other part of the country in the field of education and influx of outsiders has started to over dominate the indigenous peoples of north east said the secretary.
Each branch of NESO in the NE state will carry out a sit in protest in front of the Raj Bhavan of their state respectively on March 25 from 1 pm onward.
After carrying out the sit in protest a representative of NESO will visit New Delhi in the month of April to meet the central government to pressurize on to the demands added Prakash.

Imphal Mar 10 UNA: Four packaged food items imported from Myanmar to India were banned in Manipur by an order of the state government issued by the state food safety commissioner. The ban packaged food items were Mikko Nutritious Cereal (High Calcium)-25 gm, Mikko (3 in 1 instant Coffeemix), snacks (bakery items) and milk and milk products, and Pickles/Achar items (fruit and fishes) etc.
Manipur government has banned these items under the provisions of Section 23 and 25 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Regulation no. 22 of the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labeling) Regulation, 2011, said an official source in the state health department.
“Violation of this order shall be liable for punishment and fine as per the provision of the Act,” the order stated, asserting that the four packaged food items imported from Myanmar to India through Moreh of Manipur have no indication of the name of manufacturers, Batch Number, date of expiry of the items etc. which were mandatory under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Import and selling of these four items was violation of Section 23 and 25 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Regulation no. 22 of the Food and Standards (Packaging and Labeling) Regulation, 2011, the order stated.
As per section 23 of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006, no person should manufacture, distribute, sell or expose for sale or dispatch or deliver to any agent or broker for the purpose of sale, any packaged food products which were not marked and labeled in the manner as specified by the regulation.
The Regulation no. 22 stated that every package of food should carry the information on the label, namely (1) the Name of food including the trade name or description of food contained in the package, (2) the list of ingredients, names of ingredients used in the product in descending order of their composition by weight or volume at the time of manufacture.
As per Section 25 of the Act no person should import into India any unsafe or misbranded or sub-standard food or food containing extraneous matter and any article of food for import of which a license is required under any Act or Rules or Regulations, except in accordance with the conditions of the license.
Any article of food in contravention of any provision of this Act or of any rule or regulation made thereunder or any other Act were prohibited from being importing into India by the section, the order reminded while banning the four imported packaged food items.
