Why was she killed? That should mark the beginning of the investigation. We consider every life precious more so the innocent fair sex, who cannot protect themselves. Who are these people, who think they can kill man and woman at their sweet will. Manipur cannot earn the dubious distinction of being the creator of pitiless souls, who are out on the street like the jungle beasts, which consider harmless animals as plaything. The status of a community or society, where it stands should be measured when it can ensure safety to all sections of the people living in the state, let alone fair sex. All that is happening in the state is really shameful. We cannot ensure security to the fair sex. That is shameful. Once again a woman in early thirties had been done to death. The dastardly killing had posed a simple question are women not safe in Manipur? Criminals involved in the crime will be arrested. There is no doubt about it. Manipur is a close knit society one knows what their close friends or relatives are doing. Someone close to the killer will come out with the details how and where the victim was finished. No stone should be left unturned to understand the modus operandi adopted by the killer and the manner with which the killing was done. Such news of killing innocent helpless woman is really disturbing. It must not happen again. A deeper investigation needs to be done even the after the arrest of the culprits involved in the killing of the woman. Investigation will reveal what is sweeping in the criminals mind set. Did the killers rob the victim of per precious possession? Did she wear gold chain and ear rings when she set out from home? Did she wear the same items when her lifeless body was found? Investigation into the crime of such degree must not be abandoned mid way. All out efforts should be made to understand what made the perpetrator of the crime to act like wild beasts. The beasts cannot grasp the consequence that will entail for the action done. The perpetrators of the crime need to be dealt with like beasts. For they do not know what they were doing. Laws have been made stricter to deal with the ever increasing crime against women. Amazingly the strict laws cannot check killers’ propensity to commit crime against women. What should be done now? This question has its relevance as the crime against fair sex in Manipur is on the rise. Crime against women had paled elsewhere after the Delhi rape cum murder case? Why this shock wave does not reach Manipur? Still there are large numbers of thugs, who are lurking to strike at will the soft targets. Our society must be vigilant against such thugs. Let it not happen again.

SAIKUL, April 6 NNN: In a time when inter-village feuds are rampant and ethnic tussles are the affairs of the day, over 90 villages in the Island block region of Saikul assembly constituency under Sadar Hills in Senapati district have shown the ‘art of living’.
Nearly 100 villages comprise the Island Block region confined by Kukis, Nagas, Nepalis and even the Meitei community which is located some 30 km east of Imphal.
Today, a consultative meeting was held organised by Island Block Development Committee (IBDC) the the block headquarter at Island village participated by over 90 village chiefs, social workers and the church leaders.
The theme of the programme was to join hands in bringing development in the Island Block region so that peace and prosperity dwell. IBDC secretary A.S. Leishipem said unless the people work together nothing concrete and positive can be brought about in any society. Leishipem further said irrespective of different communities the people in the Island Block will work together to bring development and peace. Also attending the programme was Saikul assembly constituency legislator Yamthong Haokip who opined that without harmony no development can be brought about and again without development no peace will exist. Yamthong Haokip also said that if the people of the area do not oppose each other on any matter but strive to co-operate in bringing development, peace will autonomically come. Yamthong Haokip appeals the gathering to extend their utmost co-operation to the leaders so that no hurdles are witnessed in executing development projects in the area.

Imphal Apr 6 UNA : Concluding their five-day goodwill mission to Manipur, the 12-member Myanmar delegation led by MP U Khin Muang Shwe left Imphal for Tamu (Myanmar) Saturday afternoon.
Other members of the delegations include U kyaw Win, Power Minister Sagaing Region, U Htan Lian Nar, member of Sagaing Region Parliament, U Khin Maung Zaw, Township administrator, General Administration department Tamu Sagaing Region, U Tin Maung Win, Director of Electric Power Division, U Myo Nyunt, District Manager of Electricity, Tamu District and U Hla Maung President of Border Trade Chamber of Commerce, Union of Myanmar
During camping in Imphal, they visited Loktak Project Hydro-electricity Project besides holding meetings chief minister and deputy chief minister and discussed on extending healthcare service and providing electricity from Manipur to the neighbouring country.
During the meeting with chief minister, he assured electricity to Myanmar, but has urged the visiting Myanmar delegation to supply coal required for running thermal power plant in the state even as the visiting delegation pressed for opening a Myanmar Consulate General office in Manipur.
On the second day of the visit, the 12-member delegation, in a meeting with chief minister O Ibobi Singh, proposed for supply of power to the Myanmar villages at the international borderline with Manipur.
Despite having no adequate power to meet the demand in the state, chief minister gave assurance to the delegation that Manipur could provide power to the neighbouring country if the fuel required for running thermal power is supply to the state.
While proposing for the power supply, the Myanmar delegation further sought investment in setting up thermal power plant in the country. In reply to it, chief minister O Ibobi Singh expressed his willingness to set up a thermal power plant in Manipur’s Moreh town which the fuel required for running the plant to be imported from Myanmar where coal is mined in plenty.
In the meeting the chief minister assured for providing power at least 2/3 megawatt, specifically for Tamu Township in response to the request of the delegation. O Ibobi assured power by saying that his government would press the Centre for speeding up in giving clearance to supply electricity to the neighbouring country.
With regard to setting up a thermal power plant at Moreh, the CM was said to have explained inevitability of the border town needing a viable power generation facility in view of Moreh’s strategic location as a major centre for international trade in the near future.
Ibobi further pointed out that setting up the power plant at Moreh would be more feasible for electricity supply to Tamu town, said the source adding that inspite of the chief minister’s assurance the Myanmar delegation strongly suggested that the said power plant be set-up somewhere in Myanmar.
In connection with the proposed setting up of the power plant and assess quality of the power generating source (coal), an official team of Manipur would visit Myanmar in April last week.
The Myanmar team also emphasised on developing the Manipur-Myanmar connecting road into an all-weather road.
In another meeting with state commerce and industries minister Govindas Konthoujam, the delegation led by U Kyaw proposed for opening a ‘visa on arrival’ office at Myanmar to ease existing travel restrictions as Manipur had already initiated relevant procedures to set up similar facility in the state.
In response, U Kyaw conveyed that the Myanmar Government is considering opening a Myanmar Consulate General office in Manipur at the earliest.
