Imphal Apr 29 MNS UNA: The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) Monday owned up the IED attack on troops of Assam Rifles yesterday (Sunday) in Imphal East district that inflicted injuries to two personnel of the central security force including a subedar.
A subedar was among two personnel of the Assam Rifles who sustained injuries when IEDs planted by insurgents in Manipur exploded in series in Imphal East district.
The IEDs planted near a culvert at Ngariyan village under Yairipok police station of Imphal East district were triggered yesterday around 5.30 pm.
The injured personnel were identified as Subedar Anand Pandey (55) of Uttarakhand and Md Jakir Hussain (36) of Tripura. Jakir Hussain is the driver of ill-fated Gypsy which the Assam Rifles troopers were travelling. The personnel belong to 40 Assam Rifles.
Three IEDs were triggered in series when the convoy of the Assam Rifles was crossing the culvert and hit to the Gypsy vehicle moving in the front. Even though injuries were inflicted to the two personnel no much damaged was caused to the vehicle they were traveling, police said.
The injured personnel were shifted to RIMS hospital, Imphal after administering first aid at a community health centre at Yairipok.
A statement of the UNLF signed by its senior publicity officer Ksh Yoheiba dispatched today claimed that the attack was performed by demolition team of its armed wing “Manipur People Army (MPA). The three IEDs were triggered using remote control devices, it said.
Asserting that its demolition team has been spreading in both hills and valley areas of the state to carry out attacked, the state cautioned the people to stay away from Central security forces.
