IMPHAL, July 23 NNN: A large number of enraged young candidates seeking to appear in MBBS, BDS entrance test 2013 stormed Manipur Health Directorate office here and ransacked it.
Candidates who have prepared for the Pre-Medical Test (PMT) are demanding the state government of Manipur to hold the entrance exam after the Supreme Court quashed the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) notification for holding common entrance tests for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate medical courses on July 18.
Around 6000 candidates were to appear in the MBBS, BDS entrance test, but a Manipur Cabinet decision cancelled it and announced that the state nominees for MBBS, BDS courses would be selected from the National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET) merit list.
On Tuesday, enraged MBBS, BDS candidates including members of the Manipur MBBS, BDS 2013 Entrance Exam Guardians’ Association numbering about one hundred stormed the Health Directorate office at Lamphelpat in Imphal and ransacked it.
The protesters later met Health Director A Bijoy in his office. The test cannot be held without the consent of the state Cabinet who had earlier cancelled it, K Arun, secretary of the guardian association quoted Bijoy as saying during the meeting.
The protest was organised to put pressure on the state Government to take steps to conduct the entrance test soon.
Separately, the parent association of the NEET UG 2013 selected candidates of the state urged the Government to conduct counselling for the successful candidates for their medical college allotment.
S Raghubir, president of the guardian association for NEET UG 2013 talking to newspersons at the Press Club here said the counselling has already conducted in other states and UTs like Rajasthan, Punjab, Goa, Delhi Assam, Uttarakhand, Nagaland and Kerala.
He appealed the state Government to conduct the couselling immediately.
TEET which is well known among medical students as CBSE NEET is a Medical Entrance Exam which was conducted first time on May 5, 2013 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as a qualifying exam for admissions in full time medical courses like MBBS, BDS.
Starting of this exam on May 5 replaced CPMT/ AIPMT- All India Pre Medical Test.
Every year various Medical Universities and states of India conduct the qualifying entrance exam of Pre Medical to find suitable, eligible and interested candidates for the field of medical who want to pursue Medical as career. Now, CBSE is inviting qualified candidates for NEET UG 2013 Counselling for their medical college allotment through NEET result score card 2013 which students got on June 5, 2013 after the result declaration of NEET 2013.
