Imphal, Sept 1 : About 10 persons received injuries when police fired tear has shells and blank fire at an angry crowd who tried to free one Tongjachai alias Tengkhai Kipgen (22) Moreh Sikkim Village from the hands of police last night around 10 p.m.
A team of commandos posted at Moreh arrested Tongjachai (22) a cadre of Pakan revolution army for extorting Money from near Kondong Lairembi yesterday in the morning. After this women and others stoned Moreh PS and commandos office to release him. They said, he is a civilian.
As the protesters stoned PS, police fired tear gas shells. The protesters also fired at PS. In the police action, about 10 persons received injuries.
Police arrested two persons involved in the shooting at police station. They were identified as Seiboi Kuki (33) Chanou Village, Moreh ward No. 9, Thongnam Haokip (40) Moreh Sikkim Veng.
As the situation deteriorated the angry crowd burnt down the police check post near Kondong Lairembi.
Following the incident, all shops, business establishment were closed down. The area was tense.
