IMPHAL, Sep 13 MNS NNN : The ‘chief of army staff’ of the militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party-Nongdren Khomba (KCP-N), which recently signed suspension of operation (SoO) with the Central and Manipur Government, has been nabbed by police while trying to extort money from a Government official, according to police.
Superintendent of Police, Imphal East district in a statement said today that Lishram Gunamani alias Guru, 32, the chief of army staff of KCP-N was arrested from Kongba area in the district while trying to extort money from a Forest Divisional Officer (DFO) during an operation yesterday. He was also involved in the killing of a Reliance mobile tower operator at Wangkhei in 2010, it said.
Acting on a tip off, a combined team of Imphal East and Thoubal police commandos and 40 Assam Rifles poted at Canchipur under the supervision of Imphal East Additional Superintendent of Police M Rajen launched the counter-insurgency operation during which Gunamani, a resident of Kongba Laishram Leikai was apprehended at 7 pm, the statement added.A pistol with magazine having three rounds and a mobile phone handset were recovered from his possession, it added.
It added that Gunamani along with one of his friends named Jiten, hailing from Langol killed a Reliance mobile tower operator at Wangkhei here in 2010 at the behest of one Lakpa of the militant group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) for not fulfilling monetary demand.
The statement further said Gunamani joined KCP in 2009 however before that he joined the proscribed Kangla Yaon Kanna Lup (KYKL) in 1999 and again joined the PREPAK in 2007 and then the KCP.
KCP-N is now a signatory to suspension of operation (SoO) involving both the Centtral and state Governments. The outfit signed the pact here during a home coming ceremony on September 9 this year.
