IMPHAL, November 4: Pangolin shell weighing around 250 kg and worth Rs 15 lakh in foreign market which was seized from one S Thethem of Yairipok Nongpok Sekmai while trying to smuggle into Moreh by Assam Rifles from Pallel on September 22, 2010 was disposed off this evening by setting afire at a place in Tanjeng Chingol, Thoubal district.
The disposal was done under the supervision of Kh Shyam Singh, District Forest Officer and was also attended by staffs of Forest Dept; Lourembam Bishorjit Singh, Managing Trustee, People For Animals (PFA), members of PFA and personnel of Thoubal police.
Speaking to media persons, Kh Shyam Singh informed that the 250 kg of Pangolin shell after seizing from S Thethem was handed over to Kakching Range Forest following which the RO of Kakching Range Forest later handed over to District Forest Officer, Thoubal.
He continued that the disposal was performed after taking up legal formality in the presence of public.
