IMPHAL, January 2: Locals of Senjam Chirang village recovered wreckage of a Second World War aircraft in the interior part of Kounu Ching, Senapati district.
The wreckage- the main engine of the aircraft- was first detected by members of the Senjam Chirang Youth Club and Kounu Lairenbi Thougal Lup on December 30, 2013 who was on their way to worship a local deity, Kounu Lairenbi.
The wreckage was retrieved today.
It has been informed that the engine wreckage of the aircraft weighs about 300 kilogram and comprises of 14 pistons.
Many believed that the aircraft could be that of the allied forces.
