IMPHAL, January 23: Deputy CM Gaikhangam and numerous important civil dignitaries at Loktak Brigade interacted with mentor and Director, Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), New Delhi, Maj Gen (Retd) Dipankar Banerjee, who is on a visit in Manipur.
Dy CM and Maj Gen (Retd) Banerjee discussed various issues affecting the peace and harmony in the North East region and Manipur in particular. Dy CM spoke about the urgent need to improve road and rail communication connecting North East internally as well as with neighbouring countries.
He further mentioned that it would bring immense economic benefits to the population and act as a catalyst for overall development of the region. Gen Banerjee commented on the relevance of India’s North East Policy and significance of Asian Highway (AH-1) Project. He also elucidated as to how it would help the North East region in terms of border trade and economic integration with South East Asian Countries.
Presently, Maj Gen (Retd) Dipankar Banerjee is the mentor and Director of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, New Delhi since October 2003, a leading independent and autonomous think tank on conflict and security issues. He is a member of the Board of Governors, Global Coalition against Terrorism, Washington DC, USA. Also he is a renowned writer having written, edited large number of books and publications.
