IMPHAL, February 1: Suspected underground militants lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of agriculture officer Soibam Ranjit of Sagolband Tera Lukhram Leirak on Saturday at around 6.50 pm.
But no one was injured in the resulting blast.
According to the people of Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak, the blast occurred around 6.50 pm at the courtyard of Soibam Ranjit (50) and soon after the sound of a two wheeler moped speeding away from the scene was heard.
Some window panes and an i10 car were slightly damaged due to the splinters of the bomb. A police team of the Imphal west district police including some high ranking police officers arrived at the site of the blast and inspected the area.
In another incident, unidentified persons hurled a Chinese hand grenade at the residence of Dr Athokpham Lenin of Irom Pukhri Mapal Thangjam Leirak at around 8 am.
The members of the doctor’s family informed the police after the hand grenade was found lying in their court yard. A police team soon arrived at the spot and safely picked up the grenade and has registered a case against the attack.
