IMPHAL, April 16: As part of the nationwide convocation, the 27th Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) convocation was held at Asha Jina Complex on Wednesday.
The national level convocation was reportedly held simultaneously at IGNOU, Maidan Garhi complex, New Delhi with the secretary of the Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Ashak Thakur, and the vice chancellor of the Sri Lanka Open University, Dr Vijitha Nanayakkara attending the convocation as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the convocation, participants at Regional Centre Imphal located at Asha Jina complex, former director in charge, Professor Memcha Loitongbam, MIMS of Manipur University said that Indira Gandhi National Open University has become the leader in providing education in open and distance education.
She further added that Open Distance Learning (ODL) system is an indispensable education system and it is the only means which can increase the gross enrolment ration of the nation.
The regional director (IGNOU) Dr S Dilan Singh said that during the 27th convocation, 238266 students are receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificate courses from IGNOU and 725 students under RC Imphal will be receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificates.
