IMPHAL, April 28: The Manipur Manpower Upliftment Centre has wished the workers of the state on the coming of May Day.
A press release of the centre said May Day originated from the city of Chicago on May 1, 1886 when workers protested leading to the death of 10 workers.
The protest was a result of injustice and indifference faced by workers, it said.
Despite the changes, the day had brought to the life of a worker, workers of Manipur still face many difficulties, it said.
It is necessary for the people of Manipur to look with concern on the changes which will be brought by the introduction of rails into the state and the arrival of non-Manipuris which may leave the workers of the State with more competition and jobless, it said.
