IMPHAL, June 11: A man who was physically assaulted by two brothers near the Lilong Turel Ahanbi River bank yesterday succumbed to head injuries received during the assault today.
The deceased is identified as former counsellor, Shamurou Nagar panchayat Ward No 10, Roshan Ali, 45, son of (L) Abdulkadin of Lilong Lairenkhong.
Of the two brothers, the younger identified as Md Mustakin, 26 son of Md Salawar of Lilong Haoreibi had surrendered before the police concerned this noon.
His elder brother identified as Md Amubi, 28 is still absconding.
Angered by the news of the death, locals of Lilong Lairenkhong formed a JAC and dismantled the house of the two accused around 9am.
Household items were also brought out and set of fire.
Roshan Ali died this morning at Raj Polyclinic.
According to locals, around 11 am yesterday, the two brothers came to Roshan’s house to talk about some loan that Roshan had taken from them.
They took Roshan to the river bank and demanded him to return the Rs 50 thousand he had taken in connection with the sale of one of their vehicle some five years back, said the locals.
This resulted in a heated argument between them, informed the locals and added during the course of the argument, one of the brothers picked a wood and hit Roshan from behind, informed the locals.
The brothers left the spot soon after assaulting Roshan, they further claimed.
Soon Roshan was rushed to Raj Polyclinic with a head injury.
He was being treated there, untill he succumbed around 6am today, said a local source.
Meanwhile, locals of Lilong Lairenkhong held an emergency meeting this morning and formed a JAC to pressurise the government to arrest the two accused and to punish them accordingly.
The body has been deposited at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Morgue for post Mortem and the Lilong Police have taken up a case.
