IMPHAL, June 19: The Coordination Committee of Disable Organisation Manipur has appealed to the people to wait till June 30 before calling any form of agitation regarding the alleged rape of the 13 year old student of the Government Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat till June 30.
Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai has assured that a charge will be framed against the accused before June 30 based on a report already submitted by a high level team, co-convenor Kripa Pheiroijam told the media today.
Speaking to the media during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today, Kripa Pheiroijam said four days after the alleged rape, several organisations working for the welfare of the differently abled people convened a meeting and formed the committee.
Since then, the committee had carried out a spot investigation and confirmed the rape and has also found that certain individuals were trying to conceal the incident, he continued.
Representatives of the committee had also met with the Social Welfare minister Ak Mirabai today and highlighted various issues confronting the differently abled persons in the State.
The minister has assured to frame a charge against the accused before June 30 and to provide security for the school, he said.
Further speaking to the media, he said the minister has also assured to fulfil their other demands before June 30.
The process for the appointment of a separate commissioner for the differently abled, which is a long time demand of those working for the welfare of the differently abled in the State is also completed and will soon be turned into action, the minister told the committee, he said.
Minister Ak Mirabai had also assured the committee representatives that other demands including financial assistance, unemployment allowances for the disabled will be discussed during the June 21 Cabinet meeting, he said.
Appealing to all organisations to wait till June 30 considering the minister’s assurances, he said that the coordination committee will launch several forms of agitation incase the minister fails to turn into action her assurance before the set deadline.
