Imphal, July 13: A team led by Dr Shivananda H, assistant director of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) inspected National Highway-37 on Sunday, an official source told IFP.
The source said that in pursuance of the border connectivity issue significant to the North-Easter Region, a follow up action points of National Security Council (NSC) meeting on ‘Border Infrastructure and Management’ held on November 1 last year decided to pay a field visit to the North-east region.
In the meeting, it was decided that an NSC team would pay field visits to Tamenglong via Imphal on July 13 to 14.
The source added, the assistant director who has reached Silchar around 6:50 a.m., will reach Jiribam and later from Jiribam to Imphal on NH-37 by road and along his way to Imphal he will conduct a discussion with BRO/Railways/Assam Rifle/CRPF/Manipur Police at Jiribam, Nungba, Keithelmanbi and the discussion will be on security threats and preparedness, programme of Task Force under BRO since 2011 at Jiribam, Establishment of Ex-servicemen Organisation for development of road/rail network, Construction/security issue on NH-37 under construction and repairing, Progressive of rail-network on the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal alignment and associated issue and security converage for construction of road and rail networks.
It is further said, Principle secretary, Home, government of Manipur received an address from Rajesh Agarwal, Resident Commissioner, New Delhi, to provide logistic support in terms of transportation and security for Dr Shivananda H and the Joint Secretary, Home, government of Manipur has directed Shahid Ahmad, Director General of Police to provide adequate security for the visit in the route
The source added, the assistant director will leave Imphal for Delhi on July 14, 2014 after interaction with Assam Rifle, BRO, CRPF, Manipur Police at Imphal
