Imphal, July 25: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has announced cash rewards of Rs 15 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs for Khumukcham Sanjita and Mirabai Chanu who won the gold medal and the silver medal respectively in weightlifting at the 20th Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.
He has also announced cash rewards of Rs. 8 lakhs each for Sushila and Kalpana who won the bronze medal.
Taking the advantage of the Zero hour, Opposition leader Dr I Ibohalbi said that Manipuri players have opened the account of the medal tally for India at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
CM Okram Ibobi stated that he shared the opinion of the opposition and the government has different cash rewards for excellent performance at the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. He said that our sportspersons are talented and have achieved success in every field.
We make these categories to encourage them to be more excellent in the bigger events in the future, he added.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Kh Joykisan raised a zero hour privilege motion that the academic atmosphere of the Manipur Public School, Koirengei has been disturbed by the presence of the Assam Regiment (Territorial Army) post near the school at Koirengei old airfield.
He said that the government took and allotted the defence land to the Manipur Public School in lease after separating from Kendra Vidyalaya in 1993.
Now, the Army personnel have disturbed the academic atmosphere by entering the campus in uniforms. They have banned the entry of school buses in the old airfield which was used to park school buses for years. In this connection, the school students and teachers protested yesterday by forming a human chain.
The Trinamool legistor asked the government to intervene in the matter.
Meanwhile, L Ibomcha has raised the issue of excessive action of Manipur Police on student protesters demanding the Implementation of ILP during the Assembly session yesterday. He said that public witnessed the arrogance of the Manipur Police toward the students communities by kicking beat like beast toward students etc.
