THOUBAL, September 12: The All Thoubal District College Students Union has said it strongly condemned the closing of schools and colleges and that preparation for agitation for ‘Eikhoi Mahei tamjage’ has been made if the government failed to reopen educational institutes in the state by September 14.
During a press conference held at the conference hall of Library and Information Centre, Kakching, General Secretary of Kha Manipur College, Kakching, Moirangthem Prakash has further stated to the media that students of the state cannot accept the decision taken up by the government.
He further said that a conclusion must be brought between the JCILPS and the government so as to achieve peaceful education for the students. He further added that the decision of the government has brought a huge disturbance to the students and that the government schools have fallen behind in comparison with private schools.
The General Secretary has demanded the government to find an alternate solution instead of closing down the educational institutes. The government must hold responsibilities of any situation that may arise from the agitations if it fail to give in to the demand of the students, said the General Secretary.
It may be mentioned that the press conference was attended by Thoubal College, Kakching Khunou College, Y.K. College, Wangjing, Kakching Higher Secondary School and members of Student Union of the Kha Manipur College, Kakching.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools’ Welfare Association, Imphal has condemned the closing of schools and colleges indefinitely in the state by the government.
According to a release of the association, it demanded the concerned authority to bring a conclusion to the current issues faced by the state.
It also appealed to the organisations in the state not to include students during their agitations and to stop disturbance at schools and colleges.
The association has appealed to release the students arrested by the police in connection with ILP issue and to reopen schools and colleges as soon as possible. It further appealed to all concerned authorities that schools and colleges must remain open even during bandhs and general strikes, it said.
A press release of the Students’ Union of Ibotonsana Girls’ Higher Secondary School has also condemned the closing of educational institutes in the state.
It demanded the reopening of the schools and colleges in the state within 24 hours. Strong agitations will be taken up if the government failed to give in to their demand, it said.
The Janata Dal (Secular), Manipur has demanded the reopening of schools and colleges in the state.
According to a release of Janata Dal, the Working President of the party, Manihar Goshwami it also demanded the release of the members of JCILPS unconditionally as soon as possible.
He further said that it is unfortunate that the UNC has imposed bandhs on all Naga inhibited areas and also said that a similar uprising like the June 18 will come to rise if any organisation tried to separate the integrity of the state, it said.
