IMPHAL, November 7: A one day public convention on the present status of the Inner Line Permit System in Manipur came up with four resolutions setting November 18 as deadline for the government to enact the ILPS or a similar Act.

The convention was held today at the MDU hall participated by imminent personalities of the State, Civil Society Organisations and the public.

The participants highlighted several important view points on the present movement headed by the Joint Committee on the Inner Line Permit System and the non-committal attitude of the government.

Speaking to media persons, JCILPS co-convenor Somorendro Thokchom said if the government fails to come with a solution before the set deadline, a mass movement will be launched.

He continued that at the end of the convention, the participants condemned the government for allegedly being non-committal and playing delaying tactics.

He said the JCILPS condemns the government for being non-transparent on the progress regarding the enactment of an Act similar to the ILPS.

Two months after the All Political parties Committee on ILPS was formed, the JCILPS is unable to reply to the questions raised from all sections of the society regarding the status of the ILPS implementation.

He further demanded a commitment from the State government regarding punishing of addl SP Victoria Yengkhom for misusing power and degrading and assaulting JCILPS volunteers beyond her jurisdiction.

The convention was also attended by former minister RV Mingthing; chairman Kuki Organisation for Human Rights, Manipur; secretary Minority Commission, Manipur Prof Abdul Hakim Shah; president Komrem Students’ Union, Manipur and convenor JCILPS H Ibotombi Khuman

He said unless, Victoria is suspended by the end of this month, there will be an uprising.
