IMPHAL, November 8: Imphal West District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Economic & Environment Management Association (EEMA) today observed the National Legal Services Day cum One Day Legal Awareness Programme at the EEMA conference hall, Keisampat, Imphal.
Civil Judge/ Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal Ojesh Mutum in his keynote highlighted upon the need of legal services.
He said the people should have basic legal knowledge and avail the benefits provided under the Constitution of the country.
The basic objective of today’s function is to render some basic legal awareness to the public, he continued.
Under the Legal Services Authority Act-1987, underprivileged section of the society can avail free legal aid, he continued.
The para legal volunteers in the districts are there to render such free legal aid, he asserted.
Today’s function was also attended by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West RK Memcha Devi, Human Rights Law Network, Manipur director Rakesh Meihoubam and EEMA secretary S Radhapyari as presidium members.
Speaking on the sideline of the function to media persons, Memcha Devi said the observation had actually commenced since yesterday.
She said all disputes should be settled only in the law court.
This coming December 6, Lok Adalat will be conducted at every part of the country including in the State, she said before urging the general public to make full use of the day.
Advocate Thokchom Premlata Devi, advocate I Lenibala devi and advocate Ch Nanda Devi spoke on government beneficial schemes, Acts on domestic violence and role of women in society.
