IMPHAL, December 30: The year 2014 has been a successful year for the Congress party in the State, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam told media persons today.
Interacting with media persons at his party office at Congress Bhawan, Gaikhangam said although the State faced many unwanted issues during the year, if we look at the overall picture and consider the developments achieved by the State government with support and co-operation of the people, the year can be said to be a successful year.
According to official records, 2014 has been the most successful year for the government and the party during the past four or five years, Gaikhangam said.
He elaborated that the law and order situation has improved much in the State under the leadership of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh than in the previous years.
Although the State witnessed some unwanted bomb blast during the year, the number of encounters between armed miscreants and the State Police force were minimal, he said adding that it was all because of the cooperation and the support that the police received from the public.
Hiyanglam by-poll conducted mid-year provided a fresh ray of hope, as the party won with a huge margin, Gaikhangam said.
The government saw more achievements than failures in 2014, he said adding that many developmental schemes are in the pipeline.
It is also the year when the State government took up various issues for the welfare and development of the State including the introduction of the Private University Bill in Assembly, the construction of the National Sports University and a film institute in the State, Gaikhangam asserted.
He said the government will realise all the dreams of the people in 2015.
He wished for a peaceful and prosperous State with the coming of New Year 2015.
