IMPHAL, April 28: Ramrei villagers of Ukhrul district have today demanded the concerned authorities to shift away the 4th IRB Company from their village.
The IRB post was recently set up in the village on January 29, this year.
Village headman Shimdhar Zimic said the presence of the security personnel is creating a fear psychosis among the villagers especially the women and children.
The IRB post was set up suddenly in the newly constructed village community hall without any prior information to the village, he said.
A school is also located nearby to the post and the IRB personnel are using the toilet facilities of the school thereby disturbing the school atmosphere, he continued.
Very recently, some of the IRB personnel had entered into a quarrel among themselves after getting drunk and had even fired some blank shots, the village chief continued.
The incident has created a fear psychosis among the women and children restricting their movement in the village, the headman continued.
Regarding the inconveniences of the villagers due to the presence of the security post, the village head had submitted a written complaint to the concerned Ukhrul DC and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights urging to help in shifting the IRB post from the village, Zimic said.
Unfortunately there has been no positive response from the government`™s side on their demand, he continued.
He demanded as to what was the reason of bringing the IRB post in the village.
Since the IRB personnel are occupying the village community hall, the daily and monthly activities of student unions, katamnaolong, sanaolong and the Natural Resource Management groups have all been affected, he continued.
NARM-G member Z Samuel who was also asaid the community hall was recently inaugurated and used for conducting meetings and function of the student bodies, women unions and others occasions of the vilagers.
