Apropos to the news item appeared in a section of local and national news papers that Nagaland Governor’s helicopter  force landed at Imphal on 27th April 2015. In this regard, it is clarified that the Nagaland State Helicopter carrying with Shri P.B. Acharya, Governor of Nagaland, Assam and Tripura had a normal and smooth landing at Imphal airport as per the scheduled and pre-planned programme without any problem.

 

There was no question of emergency landing as reported. The Officers from State Govt. of Manipur was received the Hon’ble Governor and the entourage proceeded to Raj Bhavan, Imphal for stay as per the scheduled plan.  The helicopter flown back to Dimapur immediately after dropping the Governor at Imphal.

Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival concludes amongst huge fan fare

Guwahati, 28th April: Guwahati witnessed the third edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival on 24th, 25th and 26th April. The three-day festival was not only a great way to watch some of the best films of the Northeast but it also gave aspiring filmmakers and actors within the region a chance to interact with A-list Bollywood celebrities like Rajkumar Hirani, Kunal Kapoor, Shimit Amin, Amit Roy, Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha.

The first day began with the inauguration ceremony which was attended by Rajkumar Hirani, Kunal Kapoor, Papon, Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament along with Tarun Gogoi, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam. Soon after the lamp lighting, there was an interesting interactive session with Rajkumar Hirani. After the session, there was a special screening by Aaranyak, leading wildlife NGO based in Guwahati, with the theme of Wildlife and Natural Conservation. Later in the day, Khawnglung Run from Mizoram, directed by Mapuia Chawngthu was screened which was followed by the screening of the top ten films of the Short Film Contest. The day ended with an interaction with Kunal Kapoor which was conducted by Hasina Kharbhih. Kunal made quite an impression on Guwahati because of his humble persona and his witty answers. The day ended with the screening of Rang De Basanti by Rakysh Omprakash Mehra.

Day 2 started off with the Film Quiz Competition, and it is amazing that nearly 60 teams registered for the competition. Conducted by Rajiv Phukan, the quiz had three wonderful rounds with interesting questions about films from the Northeast. All three winning teams were given certificates and cash awards which was presented by Producer Ronnie Lahiri. Next, there was a panel discussion on Producing & Financing a Film. The speakers for this session were two expert advisors of the festival, Ronnie Lahiri and Bobbeeta Sharma. After the session, there was a screening by Aaranyak which was followed by a panel discussion on Wildlife and Natural Conservation by Manas Bhattachajya, Udayan Borthakur and utpal Baruah of UB Photos. Later in the day, there was an interactive session with Shimit Amin and Amit Roy which was conducted by Dr Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri. Films that were screened during Day 2 included Riders of the Mist directed by Roopa Barua from Assam, Crossing Bridges directed by Sange Dorjee Thongdok from Arunachal Pradesh and Ri-Homeland of Uncertainty directed by Pradip Kurbah from Meghalaya.

The final day of the festival began with the screening of Raag directed by Rajni Basumatary. That was followed by the screening of Song of the Mountain, a short film by Shrutismriti Changakoti. Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival paid tribute to the departed souls of Actor-Film maker late Bidyut Chakravarty and Actor Indra Bania .

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India, Shri Kiren Rijiju graced the award ceremony and presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran actor-filmmaker Abdul Majid.

The Top 3 winners of Brahmaputra Valley Short Film Contest were also awarded. A River Island Tale directed by Porag Gogoi won the 2nd Runner Up award.  Mirrage directed by Kamal Paran won the 1st Runner Up award.  Lotkon directed by Jivitesh Mazumdar was adjudged the winner. After the award ceremony, Guwahati movie lovers got to enjoy an interactive session with Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha which was conducted by Jarpum Gamlin. Later, Shahid directed by Hansal Mehta was screened. The festival ended on a high with the screening of the national award winning Assamese feature film Othello directed by Hemanta Kumar Das and produced by Manabendra Adhikary.

The festival was organised by Guwahati based Tattva Creations, sister concern of the publisher of Northeast’s most popular monthly English magazine -Eclectic Northeast. Assam Tourism and Star Cement was the presenting and associate sponsor respectively.

An official statement of the Governor stated that `The primordial religion of the Zeliangrong people known as Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak is a very old and vibrant form of religion like the `Sanatan Dharma` meaning an ancient and eternal religion . `The soul, the eternal life force is the God` and its existence is the manifestation of life`.

The Governor further expressed his gratitude to the president of the TRC, Meisonglung Pamei and his colleagues including Prof. Gangmumei Kamei, Chaoba Kamson, Henry Poute, D Kathuna, Kasim Ruivah and all the members of the TRCP for having been shown a warm reception in traditional way.

The Governor said that he has visited the temple of Ima Khunthokhanbi on the same day and participated in the Lai Haraoba festival of the Sylvan deity.

The vibrant festival associated with dancing and chanting of the evolution of nature and formation of human being is a joyous experience, he said adding that he belief that preserving this kind of vibrant festival and religious realm will bring a calm and peaceful atmosphere in Manipur called by the Japanese as `A flower on the lofty mountain`.
