IMPHAL May 11: The Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who inaugurated the Science Meet 2015 today said next year the organizers should consider shifting the venue to places like City Convention Centre for students`™ convenience so as to attract more participants.
The Science Meet on the theme `Science for Nation Building`™ organized by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) was held at National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Akampat, Imphal.
The Chief Minister continued that this Science Meet is held every year as part of the National Science Day and National Technology Day observed across the country on the anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear success since 1998.
To strengthen the scientific temper among the students, Manipur Science and Technology Council has been taking the lead role of popularizing science and technology in the state through such meets. It gives a platform for exchanging scientific ideas among different institutions, he said.
Such participatory exposures will also help students to comfortably opt for science in their later academic pursuit, he added.
The Chief Minister congratulated and encouraged the students, teachers and organizers to motivate innovators and boost scientific activities in the State.
Director Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) explaining the objective of the Science Meet said `To inspire the young minds with modern innovative science and technology applications and mentor their scientific progress. We facilitate such exciting shared platforms to exhibit and exchange their creative ideas through various models and improve their knowledge beyond bookish learning with hands on experiment.`
Works Minister , Dr. Kh. Ratankumar Singh, Nithi Mani Tripathi, Secretary, Science & Technology GoM and Th. Surendranath, Director, Manipur Science and Technology Council were also present in the function.
Students across the state participated and 60 stalls showcased different innovative ideas. The dignitaries lead by the Chief Minister visited the stalls and interacted with the enthusiastic students. The science meet 2015 will continue till the May 15.
Among the attractions were, Science Model Exhibition, Book Exhibition, IT Show, Science Short Play Competition, Puppet Show, Science Behind Miracle Show, Spot Painting Competition, Science Film Show, Science Drama, Declamation Contest, Science Quiz Competition and Best Appreciation Award.
